Fall Greetings!
What’s Happening at LowellArts!
LowellArts! is pleased to acknowledge an exciting new endowment created by Chris and Jill VanAntwerp
and their son, Jay (Chad) VanAntwerp. After many years of dreaming of a special fund to serve LowellArts!
organization, we are extremely grateful for their generosity to create the new LowellArts! Endowment,
established by the VanAntwerp Family.
This endowment was Chris’ dream as long ago as the early 1980s, shortly after he and Jill had a hand in
creating the Lowell Area Arts Council. The actual endowment then began with Chris and Jill’s request to
their family and friends to donate to their campaign in lieu of 40th anniversary gifts. Through Jill, Chris,
Jay and Jay’s employer’s matching gifts, they have continued quietly and unceremoniously giving until the
endowment has now reached $25,000!
At our annual fund-raising event, ArtAttack, on August 17, Chris announced the new endowment to a very
appreciative crowd of arts supporters. And nearly $1,000 additional was raised for the endowment that
evening! This endowment will now permanently house funds that will “live” in perpetuity. The principle
revenue will not be used, allowing for growth and the eventual use of the interest earned by the endowment
for special projects.
Please consider the LowellArts! Endowment for future memorial planning and for special gifts. You too can make
an impact on the future of the arts in Lowell, just as Chris, Jill, and Jay have. Their commitment to help make
Lowell a great place to live, be involved, and visit is an inspiration to us all! Lowell Arts! Board of Directors
wishes to express our gratitude publicly, thanking the VanAntwerps for their efforts to ensure the longevity
of LowellArts!, as we strive to connect regional artists and audiences through the visual and performing arts
in and around Lowell.
theatre Only: $12 in advance or at the door
Tickets are available for the Thebes Players/LowellArts! dinner theatre production of Norman Robbins’ popular gothic comedy thriller. The fast
moving play is the perfect WHODUNNIT for the fall season with a witty plot that will keep the audience guessing right up until the end. It will be
presented at Larkin’s Other Place, 301 W. Main Street, Downtown Lowell.
The cast includes John Foley as Penworthy; Mike Lally as Lucien Tomb; Yvonne Alles as Dora Tomb; Janna Chesser as Emily Tomb; Dean Borth as
Marcus Tomb; Martha Hayden as Anne Franklin; Laurie Kuna as Agatha Hammond and Freda Mountjoy; Rob Freund as Perry Potter; and Sarah
Harmon as Monica Tomb.
“It’s exciting to be doing a darkly funny murder mystery play right around Halloween. The cast of characters is a warped version of the Addams
Family. There are shades of Arsenic and Old Lace and Ten Little Indians that the audience will enjoy,” commented director Brent Alles.
The play is set in a sinister old library presided over by a portrait of a grim-faced, mad-eyed old man. An aged lawyer reads a will involving millions
of dollars, to an equally sinister family, one member of which has werewolf tendencies, another wanders around in a toga of Julius Caesar and a
third member is a gentle old lady who plants more than seeds in her flower beds! By the third act, there are more corpses than live members left
in the cast. All is revealed as the plot twists and turns to its surprising conclusion. A comedy not to miss.
