THAT OTHERS MAY SEE
Catholic Holy Family Society is very proud of
the members who took the time to donate
their old eyeglasses for the Society’s “That
Others May See” project. This program accepts
your donated prescription eyeglasses
and prescription sunglasses and turns them
over to the Lions Clubs International which
recycles them to give to persons who cannot
afford to buy their own glasses. From all of
the people who donated their glasses during
the past six months, three names were ran-
domly selected by the Society. Those three
members will each receive a $100 prize.
The names of the winners, drawn on June
CHFS FRATERNAL BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS
Council Programs Upon membership in Catholic Holy Family Society, each member is placed in a
local unit called a Council. These Councils offer members a chance to become involved in various
social, benevolent and religious activities. Each council elects officers who are responsible for
organizing and administering the many projects and programs made available to the Councils by
CHFS. Councils are also responsible for electing delegates to attend the Society’s Quadrennial
Convention, at which time Society Directors are elected and reports on the state of the Society
are discussed. The Council programs include:
Matching Funds Program Councils are encouraged to perform fundraising events each year to
assist a local religious or civic project. CHFS assists the Councils with their fraternal work by
matching all or a portion of the funds raised for the charity. The recipient of the funds and the
type of event are the decisions of the Council.
Matching Gifts In order to provide smaller Councils with an opportunity to contribute to a local
fundraising project, the Matching Gifts program was established. A Council may donate up to
$150 to a worthwhile organization, parish or individual in need. The National Council will match
that amount.
Eyeglasses “That Others May See” Program This program accepts your donated prescription
eyeglasses and turns them over to the Lions Club International which recycles glasses and gives
them to people who cannot afford to buy their own glasses. Cash prizes are given twice each year
to three winners who donate their eyeglasses.
Hearts and Hands Each year a Council may receive a grant of up to $600 to do a small work or
service project in their community. The grant is designed to give members an opportunity to assist
a needy family or parish project by purchasing materials and supplies. The members provide the
volunteer labor to complete the work.
Habitat for Humanity Projects Every year CHFS helps sponsor a project involving Habitat for
Humanity International, including raising funds and/or recruiting volunteers for a weekend home
build. Working with the local HFH affiliates, CHFS is in partnership with this non-profit Christian
organization whose ultimate goal is to eliminate poverty housing.
Council Honors Award Program Honoring Councils who meet the stringent requirements for
fraternal activity and service, the National Council increases both Matching Funds and Hearts and
Hands grants to Silver Star, Level I and Level II Councils.
20 and 50 -Year Pins Members who attain 20 and/or 50 years of membership in CHFS receive
membership pins. These are presented in recognition of the loyalty and faithfulness of the member.
Youth Retreat Grants Young members of CHFS will be reimbursed for half the cost of the registration
fee to attend the Quest and Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) weekends. These retreats are
designed to assist the younger members to find out more about God, themselves and their relationships
with family and friends.
CHRISTMAS PRAYER
Father God, When your precious Son
became a tiny baby in a stable in
Bethlehem in poverty and simplicity,
you changed our world. As we
imagine those surroundings, we join
with the shepherds and the wise men
in wonder and praise. We thank you
for our material lives, praise you for
our spiritual lives, and trust in you for
our eternal life. Amen.
