Archie Bray Clay Business
We are a full service clay manufacturer and distributor serving colleges,
universities, public schools, professional artists, and hobbyists. We
manufacture 18 moist pugged clays for all temperature ranges. Our two
pug mills produce over 350 tons of clay each year; another way to look at it
is our mills extrude about 77 miles of clay per year!
Our retail store carries an extensive assortment of clays, glazes, ceramic
materials, books, tools, and equipment. We endeavor to provide the highest
quality products and are constantly seeking new and innovative products
to provide our customers.
We are an authorized dealer for AMACO (including Brent wheels), Creative
Industries, Duncan, Giffin Grip, Kemper Tools, Mason stains, Ohaus, Orton,
Opulence, Peter Pugger, Plainsman Clays, North Star, and Skutt including
Thomas Stuart Signature Series potter’s wheels.
A Social Enterprise Business
The Clay Business exists as part of the Archie Bray Foundation for the
Ceramic Arts. The primary mission of the Foundation is to provide an
environment that stimulates creative work in ceramics. The Clay Business
mandate is two–fold; to generate revenue for the Foundation and provide
technical and material support to the education and international residency
programs at the Bray. All profits from the Clay Business go towards the
operation of the Foundation.

Beautiful, durable, cone 6 oxidation glazes that are dishwasher and microwave safe. These glazes are sold dry and
need only to be mixed with water and sieved. 1lb will make a pint of liquid glaze, 5lbs will make a gallon and 25 lbs
will fill a 5 gallon bucket. Great for dipping and pouring. Colors can be layered for other glaze effects.

AMACO Sahara HF series-Lead Free-Cone 5
All colors in the Sahara series are LEAD FREE. AMACO Sahara High Fire
Glazes are compounded to match porcelain and stoneware bodies. Matt
and textured glazes suitable for stoneware and transparent gloss glazes for
translucent porcelain are included in this series. Sahara High Fire Glazes
produce interesting effects when fired in reduction as well as in oxidation.

AMACO Gloss Decorating Colors–Cone 05–04
GDC colors can be used as a one step decoration for bisque, to produce the
Majolica technique over unfired white glaze or over all coverage. All colors
in the Gloss Decorating Colors series are LEAD FREE and Non Toxic.
Four Techniques: One Glaze. This very unique series offers unlimited
versatility. While developed specifically to produce the Majolica technique,
these colors also perform well as a one step decoration for bisque, can be

AMACO F–Series-Lead Free–Cone 05
F-Series Glazes are leadless, semi-opaque and fire with a high gloss.
Recommended for pottery dishes as well as all types of pottery. AMACO
F-Series Glazes are fritted, leadless compositions. They are semi-opaque
and fire with a high gloss. Colors are more intense and brilliant than those
of many other glazes.
AMACO® F-Series Glazes in liquid form are ready-to-use.
Recommended firing temperature is Cone 05 (1911°F, 1044°C). These
glazes must be applied on a mature Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C) bisque by
brushing, dipping, or pouring.

AMACO Artist’s Choice Glazes-Lead Free-
Cone 05
Special effects oxidation glazes that imitate high fire reduction stoneware.
All colors in the Artist’s Choice series are LEAD FREE. Effects like
Temmoku, Rutile, Oil Spot, and other reduction surfaces are achieved
without the cost or trouble of high fire reduction. These glazes will look
completely different depending on the clay they are applied on. Artist’s
Choice glazes are available in liquid form in pint jars. Apply over Cone 04
fired bisque or higher. Better results are achieved when red clay is fired
one or more cones higher than the glaze firing. For glazes A-24 Exotic
Blue and A-40 Seafoam Green glaze fire slowly and add a 20 minutes
hold at the end of the firing. The other glazes in the series will work well
whether they are fired fast or slow.

AMACO Glazes & Underglazes
AMACO Velvet Underglazes
Amaco Velvets semi-translucent underglazes offer two finish
possibilities. These semi-translucent underglazes have the
appearance of velour or velvet when left unglazed or will intensify
in color when covered with an Amaco Clear Transparent or
Gloss glaze. All colors in the Velvet Series are LEAD FREE and
AP NON-TOXIC. These underglazes can be applied to green or
bisque ware. They are intended for low fire (cone 04) but many
will fire well to cone 6 and 10.

AMACO Opalescent Glazes–Lead Free
Cone 05
Most of the AMACO® Opalescent Glazes have a high gloss
similar to mother-of-pearl. Best results are achieved with
three or four applications of glaze. On textured ware, the glaze
flows thin on relief and thick in incised areas, giving an added
dimension on the surface. AMACO® Opalescent Glazes can
be used very effectively in Raku firing. AMACO Opalescent
Glazes are supplied in liquid, ready-to-use form in pint jars.
They are applied on a mature Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C) bisque
by brushing, dipping, or pouring. On red bisque, these glazes
should be applied rather heavily, and a slow rather than fast
firing is best. Firing range is from Cone 05 to Cone 03.

These glazes provide a smooth, satin finish. Because LM Matt Glazes
are non-flowing, they are adaptable for some unique types of decoration
