AMACO Glazes & Underglazes AMACO Velvet Underglazes Amaco Velvets semi-translucent underglazes offer two finish possibilities. These semi-translucent underglazes have the appearance of velour or velvet when left unglazed or will intensify in color when covered with an Amaco Clear Transparent or Gloss glaze. All colors in the Velvet Series are LEAD FREE and AP NON-TOXIC. These underglazes can be applied to green or bisque ware. Best results are achieved with three or four applications of glaze. On textured ware, the glaze flows thin on relief and thick in incised areas, giving an added dimension on the surface. AMACO® Opalescent Glazes can be used very effectively in Raku firing. AMACO Opalescent Glazes are supplied in liquid, ready-to-use form in pint jars. They are applied on a mature Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C) bisque by brushing, dipping, or pouring. On red bisque, these glazes should be applied rather heavily, and a slow rather than fast firing is best. Firing range is from Cone 05 to Cone 03. The following prices are for pint bottles. Variegated matt textures predominate at the lower firing temperatures and gloss textures at the higher with a mingling of matt and gloss between the extremes.
