CHAPTER 5<br />

GENERAL<br />

Section I. GENERAL<br />

Part three of this manual contains a discussion of the organization<br />

<strong>and</strong> techniques for employment of the armored cavalry platoon<br />

<strong>and</strong> its elements. The platoon is organic to the armored cavalry<br />

troop of the armored cavalry squadron in the armored division,<br />

infantry division, <strong>and</strong> armored cavalry regiment, <strong>and</strong> to the<br />

combat support company of the infantry battle group. The material<br />

covered in part three is applicable to all armored cavalry<br />

platoons.<br />

74. Missions of the <strong>Armored</strong> <strong>Cavalry</strong> <strong>Platoon</strong><br />

The armored cavalry platoon performs reconnaissance, provides<br />

security, <strong>and</strong> conducts light combat missions for or as part of<br />

units to which assigned or attached. The platoon can assist in<br />

damage control operations <strong>and</strong> conduct CBR monitoring <strong>and</strong> survey<br />

operations. The armored cavalry platoon engages in whatever<br />

type of action is required to accomplish its assigned missions.<br />

Section II. ARMORED CAVALRY PLATOON ORGANIZATION<br />

75. General<br />

The armored cavalry platoon consists of a platoon headquarters,<br />

scout section, tank section, rifle squad, <strong>and</strong> a support squad (fig.<br />

14).<br />

76. <strong>Platoon</strong> Headquarters<br />

The platoon headquarters consists of the platoon leader <strong>and</strong> a<br />

scout driver, who rides in a l/4 -ton truck.<br />

77. Scout Section<br />

The scout section consists of two scout squads, each with six<br />

men. Each squad consists of a squad leader, assistant squad lead-<br />
