COMPANY OVERVIEW 

Dynex Extrusions Ltd is one of 

New Zealand’s largest producers of 

extruded plastic profiles. We have 

an Auckland based manufacturing 

plant operating more than 25 

extruders as well as a distribution 

centre in Christchurch to service 

the South Island. Dynex has a 

customer base throughout New 

Zealand, Australia and the South 

Pacific. 

Dynex has a proud history, 

beginning with just a single 

extruder through to currently 

employing over 100 full time staff 

in an operation that includes more 

than 25 extruders. The growth of 

Dynex over the years reflects the 

quality in products we provide 

as well as our commitment to 

customer service, building longterm 

relationships and exceeding 

customer expectations. Dynex has 

produced thousands of products 

since the late 70’s, these products 

can be found almost everywhere 

from an unseen component in a 

finished good to a finished product 

in its own right. 

We provide solutions to our 

customer’s need for developing 

extruded plastic profiles at 

minimum costs. We will custom 

make any extrusion, given 

minimum run sizes and realistic 

manufacturing tolerances. 

We offer a complete service 

throughout the development of 

custom-made products, from initial 

concept through to manufacture 

and final delivery. 

Using our complete service will 

ultimately save you time and money 

as we are there to assist you all the 

way from concept to final product. 

It also eliminates the hassle of 

sourcing products from overseas 

by dealing directly with a local New 

Zealand company. 

Co-extrusion is the process where 

two or more plastic materials are 

fused together to make a hybrid 

profile. For example combining 

rigid and flexible materials offers 

the strengths of each material in a 

single product. 

We possess a number of 

machine sizes that allow efficient 

manufacturing for a wide range of 

dimensions of products. 

Dynex has a great reputation of 

quality products and service, and 

is the name associated with plastic 

extrusion in New Zealand. We 

are known for realistic pricing on 

tooling and well recognised as the 

New Zealand leader in co-extruded 

products.

Dynex is a member of a worldwide 

group of companies specialising 

in plastics called Aliaxis. As part 

of this group we have access to a 

world-class technical centre for the 

development and testing of plastics. 

Being a local New Zealand company 

the Dynex manufacturing operation 

has been designed to suit the type 

of customers found in the New 

Zealand market. 

Dynex offers a range of stocked 

extruded plastic profiles and 

offers the technical capabilities to 

develop products for almost any 

industry or application. Products 

that are carried as stock items are 

available directly from Dynex or via 

distributors. 

Dynex also manufactures several 

low maintenance pre-finished 

building products that are available 

only through distributors. Some of 

our building products are Palliside, 

Dynaboard and Supaclad.

SEAL MATERIALS 

In this catalogue we have selected the most popular seal profiles from our range so that there is a seal for almost 

every application. These seals use proven materials combined into designs that give the best price/performance. 

The materials described below are listed in increasing order of performance. 

1. STANDARD SEAL GRADE (PVC) 

The most commonly used material for flexible window 

seals is now PVC (Polyvinyl chloride). 

It has achieved the number one position through a 

balance of reasonable price against performance. PVC 

has been used in New Zealand for over 25 years and 

has a proven performance record. PVC is particularly 

useful because it readily accepts additives to enhance 

the basic properties of the material. For instance the 

modifiers can improve UV resistance, low temperature 

properties, hardness - resilience etc. Our standard PVC 

material has been selected with a balance of good all 

round properties. It will withstand prolonged UV attack 

and has very good weathering properties. PVC is not 

recommended for use with Polycarbonate sheet (e.g. 

Polygal) or in high-rise applications (above three stories) 

2. RUBBERISED PVC (Nitrite Modified) 

This is similar to the Standard grade PVC but it has an 

addition of Nitrite rubber to improve the resilience or 

springiness. This grade is more useful for light seals or 

dynamic seals, particularly on sashes or doors where 

opening and shutting takes place repeatedly. The extra 

cost is offset by improved performance. 

3. SANTOPRENE 

(Thermoplastic EPDM Synthetic Rubber) 

This is a thermoplastic material that contains a high 

proportion of vulcanised material. It is our “top of 

the line” seal material. It has excellent high and low 

temperature resistance and excellent compression 

set resistance. It also has superior weathering and UV 

resistance. It is most useful for dynamic seals where the 

greatest benefit from the materials properties can be 

obtained. Santoprene can be used with confidence in 

high-rise applications. 

Santoprene is recommended for use with Polycarbonate 

sheet. 

4. DUAL HARDNESS/CO-EXTRUDED SEALS 

In this type of seal more than one plastic is combined 

in the die resulting in a product which can exhibit the 

best features of both materials. The products can have 

multiple hardness or combine colours. For instance 

the “EASY FIT” back seals have a hard, colour coded 

polypropylene foot, which allows easy threading in to 

the T slot. The sealing fins are made from Santoprene 

for resilience and weatherability. The resulting hybrid 

product is extremely functional.

5. POLYPROPYLENE (PP) 

This material is the main component for the 

pile weatherseals. The pile is made from woven 

polypropylene filaments which are then bonded on to a 

polypropylene backing this is used to lock the pile into 

the T slot. 

Polypropylene will not rot, is UV, weather and chemical 

resistant and has exceptional resistance to abrasion. The 

polypropylene is also used as the rigid component for 

the co-extruded Santoprene seal. 

6. SR BACKING SEALS (Stretch Resistant) 

These backing seals have a high tensile thread 

incorporated into the body of the seal which makes 

them stretch resistant. 

SELECTING WEDGE SIZE: 

The wedge compressed size table gives an idea of 

what wedge will fit into the aluminium pocket. If you 

measure the gap between the glass and the aluminium 

as 5mm. Select a wedge with a compressed size of 5mm 

as starting point for fitting.

4400 SERIES (PVC) 

A popular series of wedges with a size to fi ll most applications. The tips of the wedges have been colour coded for 

easy identifi cation in your factory. It is the quick way for you to see that the wedge you specifi ed has been used. The 

colour coding also means less waste as the off cuts can be quickly identifi ed. 

This range of wedges is easy to insert in the glazing pocket but the multiple fi ns are quite tenacious in resisting 

removal.

SR BACKING SEALS (STRETCH RESISTANT PVC) 

Since this range was introduced it has been well received by those users who are concerned about the tendency of a 

standard seal to stretch when being threaded. This allows the seal to shrink back again at a later date. The SR series is 

an economical approach to solving this problem. It has a high tensile thread incorporated into the body of the seal.

EASY FIT* BACKING SEALS (SANTOPRENE) 

These seals allow quicker insertion into the T slots. The hard foot means that the seal can be pushed which eliminates 

stretching. Another advantage is that the seal does not get fl icked out by rough handling once it has been inserted. 

We recommend the 9000 series Santoprene Polypropylene as high performance backing seals.

SETTING BLOCKS 

Setting blocks are used to accurately position the glass in the frame and act as a cushion. The block must support the glass without 

causing crushing on the glass edges and local distortion. It is important that a block of the correct size is used. 

The setting/spacer blocks are made from Shore A80 Santoprene. Santoprene is a high quality material which has compatibility with GE 

silicone sealants. Setting block length is important. Minimum block length should be 25mm. As a “rule of thumb” an extra 25mm should 

be cut off for each square metre of glass.

BULL NOSE 

A solid product which gives a rounded ergonomic edge to panels. No need for endcaps as the ends can be rounded

Before cutting the slot on the edge of panels check the width across the T 

section fi r tree. These vary from 4.5mm to 6.3mm as the size increases. This 

size is also aff ected slightly depending on what coloured material is being 

used. A test slot should be cut in a panel off cut to check the fi t before all 

the panels are processed. A fi rm push fi t is required. If the slot is too tight, 

pressure will cause the gap to slowly open over a period of time. This can 

result in a sight line along the edge of the panel. 

The slot may also need to be cut slightly off centre on the panel. The nosing 

is made wider than the panel to accommodate variations in panel thickness. 

An off set slot means that the visible top edge can be made fl ush and the 

overhang can be positioned underneath. 

This helps to eliminate the need for trimming.

FIXING TIPS 

1. The ribbed foot (fi r tree) has a nominal width of 3.5mm to fi t a 3.2mm saw kerf. Before cutting the slot check the

2. The material used to produce Flat T Edge is diff erent from Standard T Edge in that it will ‘stress whiten’. This means 

that if the edging is pulled around too tight a radius it will turn white where it is stressed. The solution is to totally 

remove the ribbed foot (fi r tree) from the area to be curved. On larger radius corners the normal practice of 

cutting ‘U’ notches will suffi ce.

THE CLARITY RANGE 

The “Clarity” range consists of a variety of Display products ideal for 

use in retailing and warehousing. Most products are manufactured 

from PVC which makes them extremely durable. 

Included in the “Clarity” range are scanner trim, data 

strips, ticket strips, basket clips, card holders and 

a unique range of rotating display strips for those 

situations where more conventional products won’t 

work. As well as being durable the scanner trim 

allows for infra-red scanning of computer generated 

product codes through the data strip. This means more 

efficient stock management which can save valuable time 

and money. 

All come in a variety of sizes and shapes to suit your needs. 

Most “Clarity” 

products are available in colour options subject to minimum 

order criteria. 

SCANNER TRIM/DATA STRIPS 

The “Clarity” data strips come in a full range of sizes 

with the choice of flat, angled, hanging or a rotating strip 

with ticket clip hinge that attaches to a basket or shelf. Data strips 

have either a special self adhesive backing or clip for easy application to any size shelf edge. 

Using “Clarity” display products has the advantage of being a clean method of stock 

management and price highlighting. It eliminates any mess associated with constantly 

moving price stickers and labels around. This means that shelf strips are always highly visible. 

These products are easy to install and can be cut to any size. 

TICKET STRIPS 

The “Clarity” ticket strips are designed to attach to metal shelving allowing a self adhesive 

data label or price ticket to be applied. 

CARD HOLDERS 

The “Clarity” range of card holder comes with or without the special self adhesive backing. There is also an 

angled option and a top fix option. These are particularly useful in warehouse and stockroom situations to allow 

identification and coding of stock items with removable cards. 

OTHER DISPLAY PRODUCTS 

Also included in the “Clarity” range are specialty display products such as card stands, frame or calendar clips for 

hanging posters, price labels or shelf talkers.
