Ever since the early days of fly-tying there still are few things that excite us more
than new materials, or just finding a single hackle-feather of outstanding shape.
But times are changing. Modern fly-tying and fly patterns don’t require the use of
natural feathers and furs anymore. That doesn’t mean that old patterns Fluebindning don’t work. 2009
They still do, many of them have caught fish for hundreds of years and will continue
to do so. Some of the classic natural materials come from endangered animals and
birds and we feel it’s just not morally right to deal with these today.
The naturals are easily replaced by synthetic fur, hackle, flash and dubbings. Just
check out materials like X-select Craft Fur, Polar Chenille and some of the new
dubbings in the catalogue.
This is just a start and there is a lot more to come! In our ranks we have some of
the best and most innovative fly tiers in Scandinavia and we’re currently working on
more unique GUIDELINE fly-tying products to be released in the near future.
It’s been a privilege for us to work with this catalogue and put together this selection of
materials and we take pride in delivering quality materials, for fly tiers by fly tiers.
but also incorporates a barrel housing with dual
info “Each Regal Medallion Series Vise
The strength and performance of The Regal
Bronze Pedestal Vice lies in the unique design
of our head and jaws which consistently hold
the hook in place better than any of the competitive
vices on the market, and allows for
immediate change in hook sizes with absolutely
no adjustments. This saves time and
frustration and the tier can meet the demands
of the next fishing outing in one tying session.
This is why The Regal Vices is preferred by
professional fly tyers all over the world.

sizes from 32 to 2 making it the trout
fisherman’s dream vise.
Fluebindning 2009

www.guidelineflyfish.com
When I was asked to put one fly pattern in I was totally
flummox as I looked in my boxes to try and find just one
pattern. Firstly I looked at my Loch Style boxes and there
are a lot of them, secondly I looked at my small Stillwater
boxes, a few less but still too many to choose from so I finally
decided to pick some from my river box. Again I could
not just pick one pattern but decided on a style of fishing
and what flies I tie on first on my cast.
The style I chose was New Zealand Style as this is the one I
will use when I first go to a river when I cannot see any fish
rising and it is a great way of searching out areas to find out
where the fish are and at what level they are feeding at.
Firstly I will tie on a tapered leader on to the end of the line then at the end of this I tie 20-30cm of Fluorocarbon and the attach the
Clinkhammer. This is tied with strike indicator yarn as the post. This will support any nymphs you want to hang below and will also
stand out in all light conditions.
I will tie the next piece of flour.(50-60cm) onto the bend of the dry. This will give you direct contact with the nymph below and the
nymph will make sure the dry fishes correctly. You can have one, two or three nymphs below the dry and it all depends on the depth
of water you are going to fish. If I am going to use two or three nymphs below I will use a 3 turn water know to create the droppers
and the spacing will again be 50-60cm.
When you are fishing this method you are covering all your basis- top of the water with the dry, mid water with the middle nymph
and deep water with the point fly.
Hook: Light wire grub hook size 10-16
Body: any colour you like to suite your river
Post: Strike indicator yarn
Hackle: Cock cape
Hook: Kamasan size 12-20
Tail: Black pheasant tail
Body: Black Pheasant tail
Rib: red UTC wire
Bead: Black tungsten or gold head size to match hook size
Hook: Kamasan size 12-20
Tail: White grizzle hackle fibres
Body: Pheasant Tail
Rib: Copper UTC wire
Thorax: hears ear dubbed in.
Bead: Copper gold head or tungsten size to match the hook size.
Make sure if you are using two nymphs
that the heaviest always goes on the point this way you will
guarantee that the cast turns over every time.
When you are fishing this method do not be in too much of a hurry to cast far make sure that you cover the water you are going to wade into first.
Always make sure that the dry fly is big enough and buoyant enough to support the nymphs below.
When you are fishing this cast split the river into sections and cover every area as you do not know where the fish might be. Allow the flies to drift
down with the flow of the river but at the end of the drift do not just pick up and re-cast allow the dry to check against the current. This will make
the nymphs come up in the water column just as a natural would and you will catch a lot of fish where most anglers would have not fished.
soft underfur and stiffer hair. Easy to
dub and spin for nymphs and dry flies.
Just peal the fur of the skin an dub
right on the thread. Very soft material.
Only natural colour.
The dubbing blend is what makes this cased caddis pattern. Fished on a jig hook, it is the point fly in a team
intended to be fished Czech style. The dubbing reproduces the caddis case nicely with the chopped elk and deer
hair representing the tiny twig segments and other fibrous materials that caddis use for their cases. Fished
Czech nymph style this fly is deadly because it fishes point up and won’t foul in the rocks and boulders. I use
it as the point fly in a team of three so that it can be tripped across the bottom. It often produces big grayling.
Hook: Modyfied nymph hook with bead.
Thread: Black 8/0
Head: Firefly yellow oval bead attached to heavy mono (crimped to flatten
it and whipped to shank)
Tag: Two turns of cahill or cream antron dubbing to represent the caddis
peeping out of its shell
Legs: Hungarian grey Partridge (one turn)
Natural grey and 1/3 Australian Possum in Brown olive with 50/50 mix
of natural grey deer hair and dyed brown elk hair chopped up and mixed
in to represent the twigs and detritus that caddis use to construct their
protective case.
26
Being a pike fisherman with a good knowledge of prey species and lures, when I started fly fishing for pike I realised
I could put this knowledge to good use when designing pike flies. I use a range of patterns some designed as
attractors while others are more specific imitations of prey species. Generally I like to keep the flash subtle
– I have found that most commercially tied pike flies have too much and this can put pike off.
The fly is tied by layering alternately across the back, the sides and the belly. The fly is ten trimmed to shape using
scissors to create a willow-leaf profile when
seen from below, above and from the side. This
shape is the ‘footprint’ seen by pike when they
are stalking live fish and is very important as
is the movement of the fly by creating a long,
tapered tail. I have caught lots of big pike on
this fly.
Hook: Size 3/0 or 4/0 streamer
Belly: SF blend with some pearl flash combed in.
45080 F.I.T.S. TUNGSTEN CONE
This may seem like a traditional cone
head, not much different from those
already available on the market - but
they sure are not! These extremely
thin tungsten cones have several
advantages. They have the traditional
advantage of the weight concentrating
properties in standard tungsten cones.
The difference is they balance better in
the water for their size.
They create a perfect balance with
SALAR tube hooks, no matter if you prefer
double- or treble hooks. The shape of
the cone makes it cut the water nicely.
And they are so easy to tie with!
45081 F.I.T.S. TURBO CONE
This is the cone that uses simple physic laws
to make your fly swim better than anything
you have ever seen before! The cone divides
the water and creates turbulence that
will make your fly move and look alive. With
the Turbos you can use the softest materials
without them collapsing in the current. The
fly creates its own little turbulent stream
where the materials in the fly can move even
in the slowest or strongest current. If you
believe in a moving
lively fly this must be your choice. Remember
the fly is all the fish is supposed to see!
FRODINS IMPROVED TUBE FLY SYSTEM -FITS-
47028 FITS – Tubing Device
FITS RUBBER TURBO
The soft rubber Turbo gives the fly the same magic movements
as the other Turbos. There are a few exciting new possibilities
with this soft member of the Turbo family. You can
fish them translucent as they are or dye them any color with a
marker. On these soft ones you can cut away a piece of the
cone to create any shape you want. You can turn it around
and create a little “sked” that makes your fly dive, or if you
twist it, skid on the surface. Bring out your scissors and markers
and only your imagination sets the limits on what cool
things you can do!
45081-31 F.I.T.S. PLASTIC CONE
This member Fluebindning of the FITS family opens 2009
up a new world of possibilities. Even the
super lightest little fly can now get the
turbulence and fantastic movement from
an original turbo disc. You can make
your flies hover in the slowest tcurrent.
You can let your flies get the volume and
movement without showing the disc to
the fish. The Turbo effect appears even
more magic with the invisible disc. The
light disc also gives you a chance to tie
the best skaters ever! The clear disc will
make your fly skate no matter what. Tie
your own Turbo skaters or simply slide
one down in front of any fly.
FITS TUBING
The release of these tubes on the market has changed the look
of modern tube flies forever. They are easy to use and come in 4
dimensions that fit together. They leave you with all sorts of combinations
and possibilities. By using the tubes as they are, or combining
them with dubbing or translucent material, you can create a
shine to the flies, unlike anything else. The tubing itself contains a
lot of fluorescence, which makes it glow very well in low light conditions.
For example, by melting Fl. Orange tube, together with a black
cone, you will create a fluorescent orange band at the front of the fly.
A simple thing like using a small piece of fluorescent tubing in front
of a free hanging hook, fix the hook and gives a new exciting look to
your fly. This is the original Frödin tubing that changed the use and
looks of tube flies forever!

ET Turbo
Even us “Scandis” have more and more started to experiment with not only fishing close to the surface, but in the film and on the surface.
O shit – to see a big salmon carefully sipping in a free drifted dry fly or the water exploding when taking a fast skater is probably the most exciting
salmon fishing there is. Don’t you agree!?
After this fantastic salmon season with lots of big fish landed, one of my boxes are full of more or less chewed variations on a new kind of fly.
Hmmm – it’s a mix of turboskater, Tjernobyl ant and bomber. It’s a strange creation, fun to fish and damned effective! The deer hair body makes it possible
to fish free float, the cut Rubber Turbo makes them skate over the fastest and roughest surface and the rubber legs – well God knows, but the fish
just love them! Ugly Yes maybe, but in my world makes all the explosive takes them gorgeously good looking!
Tube: FITS X- small and medium.
Tail: Stiff white hair or hair in the sam color as the back part of
the body.
Body: Hard packed deer hair of good quality. Two colors of your
own choice. My favorites are the brown and the green one. Cut
them flat underneath.
Legs: Grizzly colored rubber legs in two different colors.
Cone: Rubber Turbo cut and dyed with a marker.
bend and needle eye. We recommend this
hook for normal fishing. Black nickel finish.
Sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10.
This is the strongest and sharpest treble tube
hook on the market! It has the same design as
our Strong Hook, but with even tougher- and
more powerful wire. This hook is designed for
large salmon, big flies and sunk line fishing.
Black nickel finish. Sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12
These strong and incredibly sharp tube hooks
are perfect for light and sparsely dressed tube
flies for late season and low water. With this
hook you can use a size larger hook than normal
for the size of the tubefly you’re using without
adding more weight to the fly. Black nickel
finish. Size: 4, 6, 8.
This is a short shank tube hook in black nickel
finish with strong wire and great hooking abilities.
Sizes: 4,6,8.
A very strong upeye double fly hook that holds
large fish secure. It is also designed for those
who like a little more weight in the fly. This is
preferable when you want to fish deeper. Black
nickel finish. Size: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.
Light weight double salmon hook for fishing
in the surface. It has a thinner wire than the
Strong version which makes it more suitable
for light dressed flies and floating lines. Black
nickel finish. Size: 4, 6, 8, 10.
Salar Single Tube are among the first single tube
hooks that are specially developed for tubeflies.
The hook has a little longer shaft than the double
tubehook. The hook shape makes the fly better
looking and gives better balance. Which makes
the fly move easier in the river current. A single
hook makes less damage and are well suited for
C&R. The hooks are strong enough for the biggest
salmons and hooks well.
In the Salar Double Tube we use reinforced carbon
steel that allows us to use a thinner wire. The hook
shank is slightly longer than the treble, which gives
better hooking and stronger hold.
The tube hooks are made on the same philosophy
as the fly hooks. They are light, strong and
have a slightly curved point which gives great
hooking capabilities.
The treble tube has a small, straight and oblong
tapered eye. This makes it easier to put the hook
into the tube or the extension.
The unique tapered hook eyes, together with an
ideal 45 degrees angle on the eye make a perfect
design. The eye has a thinner diameter, and the
neck of the hook is tapered. This helps the knots
to stay in place and give better balance.
The special hook gap and slightly turned in point
hooks better and does not fasten in the bottom so
easy. The barb is easy to pinch down, an important
feature when fishing catch and release.
Tiemcos avanserte teknologi har revolusjonert designen
og produksjonen av fluekroker. Med sin unike produksjons
prosess forbedrer de stadig krokenes egenskaper.
Mottoet ”Think in the Field” reflekterer godt Tiemcos
mål om å kontinuerlig utvikle fluefiskeprodukter som
imøtekommer våre krav til funksjonalitet og design.
Naturen er arena for læring og produktutvikling. Fisken,
fiskesituasjonen og byttet bestemmer hvordan produktene
skal utformes.
Tiemco kroker er kjemisk herdet og sylskarpe. Krokene
Point (SP).
Opprinnelig designet for fiske i Japans krystallklare
kildeelver. Denne kroktypen egner seg spesielt godt til
klekkere av for eksempel døgnfluer og mygg. Black nickel
finish.
