TROWBRIDGE COUNTY TOWN BRIDGE CLUB
trowBRIDGEclub
Annual General Meeting
Minutes of the Fourth Annual General Meeting
held on 18 April 2011 at trowBRIDGEclub at 6.45pm
Present: Ian Cain (Chairman), Diana King, Ron King, Phil Green, Barry Fordred,
Eve Barwell, Pat Lewis, Pam Ward, plus 47 members
1. Apologies: Roger Karn, Ros and Paul Thomas, Mary and Roger Giles, Brian Thomas,
Gerry and Elspeth McAinsh
2. Minutes of AGM of 10 April 2010 – Proposed by G Baskerville, seconded by E
Jackson. Unanimously agreed.
3. Matters arising - none
4. Chairman’s Report – This is the fourth report since the new Trowbridge County
Town Bridge Club was launched in September 2007. Since then the Club has
continued to grow in numbers. This year has seen members playing in outside
events and representing the club on several occasions, such as the inter club
NICKO matches and the Garden Cites event. The club has also recently
organised a huge charity event in aid of Wilshire Air Ambulance.
Thanks were given to Eve Barwell and Pat Lewis, founder members of the club,
who are stepping down from the committee this year chairman. Also thanks to Phil
Green for directing and scoring the WAA event on 18 April; and to Eve Barwell
who helped with the catering and prizes. The trowBRIDGEclub has had a
successful year and is set to continue that success into the future.
5. Treasurer’s Report – the Treasurer, Ron King, reported a very healthy profit of
£728 for the year 2010 to 2011; this despite having spent a considerable amount
on administration and other expenses. These included training of Directors,
entrance fee for the NICKO teams, coffee machine and coffee, new bidding
boxes, bidding cards and playing cards.
The profit from the WAA event was £50 short of £2,000. After some discussion it
was agreed that members present could make a voluntary donation to the charity,
in place of table money as none is levied on AGM evenings. Ron expected that
there would be a healthy profit again next year as many of the costs this year,
would not be repeated. Proposed by Jim Corbett and seconded by Jill Wyatt, the
meeting approved the accounts. Richard Moore was thanked for his examination
of the accounts and his appointment approved for the coming year.
Richard Moore asked how much fund the club intended to keep in the account. It
was explained that a substantial fund is required in case we out-grew the building
or required new bridge equipment to replace existing items, which have cost about
£6,000.

6. Changes to the Constitution –
Section 5. Membership. Paragraph 6:
After the expiry of the period of two weeks mentioned above, and after the
applicant has played in two complete sessions at the Club, the Committee
shall as soon as convenient consider the application for membership, taking into
account the experience of the player and any objections notified to the Secretary,
and shall promptly notify the applicant of the acceptance or otherwise of the
application.
Amendment agreed unanimously.
7. Election of Officers – agreed unanimously. The Officers and Committee of the
Club were elected as follows:- Chairman Ian Cain; Secretary Diana King;
Treasurer Ron King; Committee Barry Fordred, Pam Ward, Frances Ind and
Helen Moore. The chairman explained that the Chief Tournament Director post
will be agreed by the committee at their first meeting.
8. Any Other Business - The Chairman reminded everyone that the Club meeting
on Thursday 5 May would be at the Farmhouse Inn as the TCC was being used
as a Polling Station. Penny Gaunt asked if ventilation of the room could be
improved. The Chairman agreed to put this as an item on the agenda for the first
committee meeting.
