FIMAS ELECTROFUSION FITTINGS<br />

FIMAS Electro Fusion fittings are specifically develop and manufacture to<br />

achieve high reliability & performance, long lasting life cycle service, leak<br />

proof connection and easy operation.<br />

FIMAS Electro Fusion fittings are made from <strong>PE</strong> 100 materials and<br />

manufactured using injection molded technology. Each FIMAS Electro Fusion<br />

fitting is incorporated with copper wires which are heated up to the required<br />

temperature through an electric current. This can be done through<br />

RESINTECH Electro Fusion Welding Machine. Each FIMAS Electro Fusion<br />

fitting comes with a complete bar code and can be read through bar code<br />

scanner available in the electro fusion welding machine.<br />

ELECTRO FUSION - INSTALLATIONS<br />

Jointing using electro fusion is simple, quick and efficient.<br />

Successful joints can be consistently reproduced after very<br />

simple training.<br />

Similar procedures are used for all electro fusion systems, energy<br />

being provided by an electronic control unit.<br />

The instructions below describe the use of electro fusion for<br />

jointing adjacent lengths of pipe. The instructions apply equally<br />

to joining thermoweld fittings to pipe.<br />

Ideally, surfaces should be dry when joining. This is impractical in<br />

some situations, e.g. mains repair on insertions. Satisfactory<br />

joints can still be achieved in wet conditions providing the water is<br />

clean and free from suspended matter or oil. However, coupler<br />

joints must not be made in conditons of running water.<br />

COUPLERS<br />

Cut pipe square and remove burrs.<br />

Arrange pipes to be joined so that they are approximately in<br />

line and with the ends touching.<br />

Without removing the protective wrap, place the coupler along<br />

side with the pipe ends with the centre line of the fitting with the<br />

ends as shown.<br />

Using a felt tip pen or similar, place a mark on each pipe<br />

approximately 20mm out side the extremity of each end of the<br />

coupler.<br />

STEP 1<br />

5. Place the fitting to one side and thoroughly scrape the outer<br />

surfaces of each pipe or thermoweld fitting from the mark to<br />

the pipe end, to completely remove the surface layer.<br />

STEP 2<br />

When using a hand scraper, the operation is simplified by<br />

rotating the pipe and scrapping from above. Where rotation is<br />

not possible scrapping should start from the under side.<br />

In the case of mechanical surface preparation tools the<br />

instruction supplied by the manufacturers should be followed.<br />

After preparing the surfaces of both pipes care should be taken to<br />

prevent the surfaces from becoming contaminated by grease or<br />

other dirt. This can be conveniently achieved by placing a plastic<br />

bag over each pipe end.<br />

Remove the electro fusion fitting from the protective wrapping and<br />

fit it on to one of the pipes to which it is to be joined until contact<br />

is made with the pipe centre stop. Mark the pipe to show the<br />

extremity of the fitting. Then insert the other pipe into the fitting<br />

until it reaches the pipe stop and mark that in a similar manner.<br />

STEP 3<br />

CLAMPING<br />

10. Care should be taken to prevent movement of the assembly<br />

during the fusion process. The use of welding clamps will<br />

minimize the risk of accidental movement and also assist in<br />

aligning pipes.<br />

11. Remove the terminal protectors and connect the control unit leads<br />

to the terminals on the fitting.<br />

STEP 4<br />

Observe the joining time shown on the fitting.<br />

Switch on the control unit. Key in the number of seconds required<br />

for jointing. check the digital display for confirmation that the<br />

correct time has been keyed in. Press the start button. The digital<br />

display will progressively reduce as the jointing time elapses.<br />

STEP 5<br />

14. Completion of the cycle will be indicated on the control panel.<br />

Material should also have risen up the fusion indicator hole<br />

adjacent to the terminal shroud, also indicating successful fusion.<br />

15. Remove the connection leads and leave the joint undistributed for<br />

the cooling period indicated on the fitting.

FIMAS THERMOWELD FITTINGS<br />

The development and manufacturing of FIMAS Thermoweld fittings demonstrated<br />

again Resintech relentless effort in pursuing and improving its range of<br />

polyethylene products.<br />

Previous thermoweld fittings are mainly a result of fabrication of polyethylene<br />

pipes into fittings which are not leak proof and depend mainly on quality of<br />

fabrication by welders. With the development of FIMAS Thermoweld fittings,<br />

these short coming are non existent as all FIMAS Thermoweld fittings are<br />

manufacture using the latest injection molded technology which contribute to<br />

its high reliability & performance, longer lasting life cycle service, leak proof<br />

connections and easy operation.<br />

FIMAS Thermoweld fittings are another extension from the FIMAS Electro Fusion fittings as both are able to<br />

compliment one another during complex installation situations. FIMAS Thermoweld <strong>Fittings</strong> are manufactured using<br />

<strong>PE</strong>80 or <strong>PE</strong>100 materials and sizes are available from 20mm up to 800mm diameter.<br />

FIMAS Thermoweld <strong>Fittings</strong> features:<br />

• Suitable for both gas and water polyethylene applications<br />

• Available in SRD11, 13.5, 17, 21 and 26, <strong>PE</strong>80 or <strong>PE</strong>100<br />

• Elbow, Equal Tee, Reducer, Reducing Tee, Stub End & End Cap in sizes of 20mm up to 800mm are all available<br />

• State of the art injection molded technology, no fabrication needed as all fittings are produce in one piece<br />

3 FIMAS FABRICATED POLYETHYLENE FITTINGS<br />

With the ever increasing demand for complex and cost efficient design for water, gas & sewer infrastructure system,<br />

polyethylene fabricated fittings will play an important role in helping engineers and contractors to unravel in difficult<br />

installation situations where common polyethylene fittings fails.<br />

FIMAS Fabricated fittings can come in various sizes, angles and shapes. It is available in either <strong>PE</strong>80 or <strong>PE</strong>100<br />

materials. All FIMAS Fabricated fittings are suitable for application such as in water, gas and sewer. We have a<br />

group of experience and well train engineer welders that specializes in producing and fabricating polyethylene<br />

fittings for the past 10 years and it is with these fundamentals that Resintech will again prove to be the best of its<br />

kind in the industries that we are in.<br />
