The Common Sense Cowman Breeding Program
For years we followed the conventional wisdom that what we wanted were balance trait cows. We bred, owned
and propagated balanced trait cows … pure maternal and growth cows. Our experience led us to the conclusion
that all we made was the “jack of all trades, master of none” cow. We realized it took us eight years to break even
on a cow. By owning the “balance trait cow” the average cowman is paying for terminal traits he only needs in the
calves he sells. (See example.) The cowman was owning a cow only half as good as he needed.
This led us to develop the Common Sense Cowman Breeding Program, where the cowman owns 100 percent
maternal cows (CowMakers) and sells calves weaning off at 65-70% of their mother’s weight with outstanding
growth and carcass traits. What you sell is sired by our PowerBulls that have 100% focus on our maternal traits.
In other words, own the maternal trails and sell the terminal traits.
