A comprehensive carding concept
The cards of the TC 5 series have been designed for
applications where the expectations of card produc
tion are rather moderate, quality and efficiency
expectations, however, are very high. The cards are
available in two different executions. The TC 5-1
with the WEBFEED with 1 pre-opening roll and the
TC 5-3 with the WEBFEED with 3 pre-opening rolls.
The Trützschler Cards TC 5 can at first sight be recognized
as members of the new Trützschler card
family. The intrinsic values, too, are partly identical.
The machine elements which are rel evant for the
applications of this card are largely comparable to
those of the Card series TC 06 and TC 07.

Superior quality through the longest
carding section on the market
The carding quality is primarily determined in the
area of the cylinder. Here, the revolving flat is of
particular importance. With an optimal number of
flat bars, it is responsible for cleaning as well as
extracting neps and short fibres.
To ensure its optimal function, the fibre web must
be prepared accordingly. This job is assigned to
the pre-carding area with its cleaning and carding
elements. As a rule: The higher the pre-opening,
the more intense the carding, which results in
increased production. After wards, an enlarged
post-carding area ensures even cleaner sliver and
higher fibre parallelism .
Trützschler cards, of course also the TC 5, have
the longest carding section ever. This is exactly the
reason why they provide an un surpassed quality
potential.
SENSOFEED+ and DIRECTFEED:
The feeding system for the TC 5
The new, flexible Integral Feed Tray SENSOFEED+
ensures controlled web feeding to the WEBFEED
Unit. Its feed table compacts the tuft web and guides
it to a knife-shaped feed tray tip. The feeding
of material slubs leads to a partial temporary deformation
in the material of this tip. This deformation
in the range of a few hundredth millimetres which
is hardly visible only has marginal influence on the
overall deflection of the feed tray. Therefore, we
talk of a flexible integral feed tray.
Options
The feeding of material slubs leads to a
minimal deformation at this point of the
tray edge. In the simulation the effective
forces are highlighted in colour
Additional protection against foreign particles
As additional function, the Feed Tray SENSOFEED+
features a feed monitoring for the card. The tray of
the SENSOFEED+ system compacts the tuft web
and guides it to the transfer position. The clamping
point position can be adapted to the fibres’ staple
length. As soon as thick places are de tected in the
web, the feed monitoring triggers an immediate
card stop. Afterwards – with the aid of the electrical
reversing motion – it is possible to remove the
foreign particles without a problem, before any
damage can occur.
DIRECTFEED – the Integrated Tuft Feeder
The Tuft Feeder DIRECTFEED is an integral part of
the Card TC 5. This is why the delivery roll of tuft
feeding is identical with the card’s feed roll. Hence,
faulty drafts due to wrong or suboptimal setting
have no chance to develop.
DIRECTFEED works on the basis of the Trützschler
dou ble trunk principle. In this connection, the foundation
for excellent sliver CV values is laid in the
lower trunk by an optimised geometry and extend -
ed material fly. The air outlet combs with direct
and permanent suction are positioned right in front
of the card’s feed roll. It is only here, just a few
centimetres in front of the nip line of the feed roll,
that the actual web is formed.
6 Card TC 5
WEBFEED:
This is how gentle and efficient opening can be
The WEBFEED System consists of one or three
opening rolls connected in series. The tufts are
opened in a gentle way. An even and fine web is
created, which ensures a higher carding efficiency
at the actual main working points (between cylinder
and flats/carding segments) during the transfer
to the cylinder. With the 3-roll WEBFEED Unit the
card can be operated at higher cylinder speeds,
with finer clothings and tighter adjustments.
Furthermore, it is possible to use newly developed
cylinder clothings that require an evenly fine web
supply.
A high degree of opening is the basis for
high qualities
Gradual opening with three rolls protects the fibres
at higher production rates. At the critical place between
feed roll and licker-in, a sudden acceleration
of the fibres takes place. The first roll of the 3-roll
WEBFEED System runs at a clearly lower speed
than the one licker-in the 3-roll version .
When processing cotton the first roll of the 3-roll
unit can optionally be equipped with short needles
which gently pluck the tufts from the clamping point
of the Integral Flexible Feed Tray SENSOFEED+ . The
second and third clothing rolls open the tufts further
and form a web.
Highly accurate settings within seconds with PMS
The area of the first roll of the WEBFEED System
is the main cleaning zone of the TC 5. Here, an optimal
setting of the knife is important, par ticu larly
with regard to an optimal waste composition. This
applies to the distance of the knife to the clothing
points, as well as to the clamping point between
feed roll and opening roll, since both influence the
degree of cleaning.
This is exactly what the successful Precision Knife
Setting System PMS of the TC 5 provides.
The knife, which circles around the centre of the
With this lever the knife is adjusted
first pre-opening roll, is infinitely adjustable within
seconds, so that the distance of the knife point to
the clothing or needles points is exactly the same
in every position.
In doing so, there is no need to stop the card, as
the setting lever, which is positioned on the left
machine side, is freely accessible. A glance into
the transparent suction ducts immediately shows
the success of the readjustment.
MULTI WEBCLEAN –
for customised pre- and post-carding zones
To adjust the carding conditions exactly to the particular
application, i.e. to raw material, production
volume and targeted quality, the super flexible
MULTI WEBCLEAN System has been developed.
It allows the individual attachment of ten special
The three different
elements of the modular system
elements each in the pre- and post-carding area of
the cylinder, whereby only the first and last element
are specified. The remaining eight elements can
be flexibly selected according to the required task:
Cleaning element
This component consists of a mote knife with
a hood under permanent suction. It controls the
air situation of the cylinder and sucks arising
reviving agent dust off.
Carding element
The carding element consists of two clothing
strips in a support (TWIN TOP), which can be
equipped with a number of different clothing
types and finenesses depending on installation
site and man-made fibre type.
Cover element
When none of the elements described above
is used on one of the eight variable posi tions
in the pre- and post-carding area, a cover
element is mounted. This high-precision aluminium
profile is provided with an absolutely
smooth surface to prevent air turbulences
and unnecessary fibre friction.
Replacement in only a few minutes
Once the elements are precisely adjusted, they can be mounted and dismounted without
the need for readjustment. This is achieved by specially developed fixing elements.
In the area of pre-carding, 3 carding elements
with 2 clothings strips each and 2 cleaning elements are
used (option)
Central flat adjustment
Best carding results with adjustable flat system
The flats are responsible for the main cleaning
work in cards. Over 30% of the card waste will be
eliminated by the flats. Hence the precise setting
of the flats is one of the key factors for a successful
carding performance.
Uncompromising use of high-tech components
The use of high-tech components within the
Card TC 5 is responsible for reliable operation and
low maintenance.
The individual flat bars are made of aluminium
profiles. They are guided by two toothed belts.
By using the hard metal gliding pins, re-shaping
the flat heads – otherwise necessary after reclothing
– is dropped.
Precision Flat Setting System PFS for central
and precise flat setting
The PFS of the TC 5 is a patented system for the
quick and precise setting of the distance between
the aluminium flats and the cylinder.
1
2
The adjustment is performed centrally. At each side
of the card, a small gear can be turned manually
and a scale shows the actual setting in reference
to the basic setting. That way, the distance of all
flat bars in working position towards the cylinder is
widened or reduced.
6
Flexible bend – precise and
reproducible adjustment
In order to use the advantages of the quick flat
setting it is important that the basic adjustment
of the flexible bend is as precise as possible.
Trützschler has newly developed the flexible bend
Deviations of the carding gap [mm]
Standard equipment/
Options
Measuring points
6 adjustment points of the TC 5
4 adjustment points of conventional cards
Adjustments of the flexible bend with 6 adjusting spindles
and provided it with an optimised cross section.
The bend disposes of six adjustment points, in contrast
to conventional cards with only four adjustment
points. This considerably improves the
precision of the setting and prevents twisting of
the bend.
The diagram shows the effect very clearly. Near the
four measuring points the bend has been exactly
adjusted with the conventional system. In between
there may emerge deviations of up to 5/100 mm.
The flexible bend with 6 adjustment points minimizes
the deviation down to 1/100 mm.
Perfectly adjusted flats are the decisive factor for
maximum cleaning and nep reduction.
Longer service intervals through a new
flat cleaning device
The flat cleaning device can be adjusted simply,
quickly and securely. As a result shorter servicing
time, longer service intervals and a protection
against faulty adjustment are achieved.
Flat bar replacement – within one hour; without tools
The individual flat bars are made of aluminium
profiles and are thus light and extremely stable.
They are guided by two toothed belts and are
directly connected to them via a cam . The hard
metal pins fixed to the ends of the flat bars glide
across a special plastic strip.
This arrangement has the advantage that a complete
flat replacement can be performed by just
one person in less than one hour. Added to this is
the elimination of conventional oil or grease lubrication.
Thus, the entire flat area remains clean and
maintenance-free. And even the hard metal gliding
pins have a maintenance-specific advantage:
They eliminate the otherwise necessary re-milling
of the flat heads after re-clothing.
Optimal adjustment of flat speed and the
An infinitely controlled drive allows exact adaptation
of the flat speed to the material.
Even more decisive for the production quality is
the adjustment of the flat bars to the cylinder.
If for instance the adjustment is too narrow, this
results in an increased clothing wear and corresponding
costs. If the setting is too wide, the nep
values of the sliver will be too high.
even more wear-resistant
plastic. This picture represents
the configuration of the postcarding
Permanent suction for permanent
carding quality and economic efficiency
A permanent suction of all points is standard on
Trützschler Cards, because permanent suction is
cleaner, more efficient and improves dust extraction.
And to make sure that this advantage is also effective
when no according filter system is available,
the option exists to resort to an external filter unit
with discontinuous disposal.
The main reason for the efficiency of the permanent
suction is the low operating subpressure and
the low air requirement. At 740 Pa and 3,700 m 3 /h,
the values are clearly below those of other systems,
which can be attributed to the flow optimisation
of each duct element. This effect cannot only
be calculated, but also observed:
Transparent duct parts provide an insight into the
suction hoods at all times, even while card is in
This resulted in a space-saving, rigid and robust
With the SNAPLOCK System, the ducts can be removed
14 Card TC 5
Card TC 5 Card technology Drives/Controls
Driven by energy efficient and maintenance-free technology
For the Card TC 5, various drive motors and transmission
elements are used; together they provide a
convincing drive solution. This includes special AC
motors that drive cylinder and licker-in separately
from each other, and whose rotational speed can
be adjusted if necessary. Maintenance-free spe cial
belts guarantee a long lifetime.
Digitally controlled third generation
servo drives
Trützschler was the first card manufacturer to use
servo motors as a standard feature in its machines.
This applied to analogue, as well as digitally controlled
motors. Until now they had to be equipped
with electromechanical rotary encoders for the
realisation of a closed control circuit.
Now Trützschler is the first supplier that uses
regulated servo motors worldwide without these
encoders. In doing so, the last potential main tenance
point is eliminated, and the encoder is
replaced by intelligent software evaluation of the
current motor data.
These drives are used for doffer, web doffing unit
and can changer. In addition, the servo drives generally
reduce the electrical po wer losses through
increased efficiency. Furthermore, they provide a
Assembly of digital controls at Trützschler in Mönchengladbach, Germany
maximum of speed and control accuracy even at
low speeds, which results in improved sliver CV
values.
The applied digital drive controls communicate
directly with the microcomputer of the card control.
From there they receive the necessary infor mation
for the required drive task. Parameterisa tion and
calibration are completely eliminated – even after
the change of a control unit. And even auxiliary
drives in the TC 5, such as e. g. for the feed roll of
the tuft feeder or for the flat drive, are brushless
and infinitely variable.
Completely maintenancefree,
digitally controlled
servo motor. This motor type
has neither carbon, brushes
nor fans, and is completely
encapsulated

Options Technical data
Levelling systems, exactly adapted to each other
For the production of an even card sliver, a num ber
of measures must be perfectly coordinated:
1. Card feeding
Already the material flow to the card is continuously
controlled in Trützschler installations
(CONTIFEED System). The production requirements
of all cards in a line determine the current production
of the last machine in the blowroom. This continuous
card feeding forms the basis for an even
sliver.
2. Card feeding
Additional homogenisation is made possible by
the double trunk principle of the tuft feeder, which
ensures continuous, pressure-controlled feeding of
the upper and lower trunk. This way, for instance,
a speed adjustment of the tuft feeder’s feed roll
to the respective card production prevents unevenness
of the card sliver, which can occur during
start-up and shutdown of the card.
3. Long-wave levelling
Analogous to the sliver mass measurement performed
by the sensor in the card’s sliver trumpet,
the feed roll speed is controlled. In doing so, a
single sensor covers the entire spectrum of the
regular card sliver counts.
4. Short-wave levelling
The Card TC 5 is also equipped with a shortwave
is already effective for a sliver length of less than
MAGNOTOP –
quick change of flat tops without tools
Up to now, the replacement of a flat top has been
a work and time intensive process. MAGNOTOP
ensures clear savings in time and costs.
The system uses the magnetic force of so-called
neodymium magnets, which are considered to be
the strongest permanent magnets ever:
One neodymium magnet, smaller than a cigarette
pack, can easily hold or lift a weight of 100 kg.
Another decisive advantage: The expensive alloy
made of iron, neodymium and boron, retains its
magnetic force for many decades.
14 h 2 h
1. Pick up a new transport box, containing
a set of flat bars with new clothings from
warehouse and unpack flat bars
2. Get an empty transport box from warehouse
3. Remove entire flat set from card and place in
transport box
4. Take new flat set from box and place on card
5. Take empty transport box back to ware house
6. Transport old set of flat bars to a workshop
7. Remove worn clothings with a special machine
from the flat bars
8. Dispose of old clothing strips and clips
9. Attach new clothings on flat bars with
metal clips
10. Grind the clothings
11. Align flat bars with clothing
12. Pack up flat bars
13. Transport flat bars back to spinning mill
14. Store flat set
Trützschler uses these advantages for its innovative
MAGNOTOP System to attach flat tops. In this
process, the flat bars are equipped with neo dy m -
ium high energy magnets in form of strips. On the
back of the clothing strips there is a matching thin,
flexible metal strip.
Once positioned on the flat bar, the clothing strips
remain exactly in place, because the magnetic
forces exceed the developing carding forces by a
multiple. Thus, the fastening is 100% reliable;
on the other hand, the clothing strips can simply
be “peeled off“ from the side and removed with
little effort.
Conventional flat system MAGNOTOP Flat System
1. Pick up set of new MAGNOTOP clothing strips
and unpack
2. Take one flat bar each from the card, remove
clothing strip by hand, attach new clothing
strip, and put flat bar back into card
3. Discard old clothing strips
Instead of manually handling
each of the 84 flat bars six
times, MAGNOTOP requires
only one-time handling.
The overall personnel expenditure
of time is reduced from
approx. 14 hours to less than
2 hours.

Options Technical data
Higher quality through higher precision
Lower costs, higher flexibility
and better yarn quality
With MAGNOTOP, there is no longer a need for
in-house flats workshop, additional space, special
machines, service, maintenance and according
specialists. Thus, investment costs of approx.
120,000 to 150,000 Euro and considerable standing
operating costs are eliminated.
At the same time it is much easier to try out a
new type of flat top. The old, still useable set of
MAGNOTOP clothing strips must not be discarded
for that reason, but can be reapplied at any time.
Finally, MAGNOTOP compensates also tolerances
by means of the patented flat top fastening system.
This simplifies precision-setting, which in
turn improves the carding result, and leads to less
neps in the yarn.
Less process steps for more time
and cost efficiency
While it is a matter of course to replace a cylinder
or doffer clothing on site, flat bars had to be labo -
riously removed in the past, then transported to a
special workshop where they were replaced.
MAGNOTOP allows for the first time complete flat
top service directly at the card.
T-Con – the other word for optimal card setting
The distances of the carding elements to each
other are the most important settings at the card.
They significantly influence the carding and therefore
the yarn quality. The setting is made on the
standing, i.e relatively cold machine. Physical influences
such as centrifugal forces or temperature
rises, however, change these important settings
during operation of the card. The actual settings
during carding have been unknown so far.
T-Con determines the exact carding settings and
recommends optimisations
The optimisation tool T-Con is a software tool integrated
in the card control. It obtains its information
via special sensors which e.g. measure the current
temperatures or the speeds of the carding elements.
T-Con carries out a permanent analysis of
the operating condition.
On the screen of the card control T-Con now displays
the current distances and recommends possible
optimisations depending on the fibres that are
being processed.
T-Con ensures optimised setting fast and efficiently
The flat distance can now be changed e.g. with the
help of the Precision Flat Setting System PFS in
just a few seconds even during production. T-Con
determines and displays the new operating condition
immediately.
The five T-Con functions
The blue highlighted fields show the recommended
optimisations determined by T-Con
The setting of the fixed carding segments can also
be optimised within a few minutes without measuring
tools. In order to do this, only the T-Con Spacers,
precise colour-coded distance elements, have
to be replaced.
T-Con prevents damage to clothings
A further important function of T-Con is the protection
against clothing damage. If the setting is
too narrow, a warning appears. In case the metallic
wires of two carding elements get in contact, the
card will be stopped immediately before any damage
occurs.
The T-Con Spacers can be replaced in no time and thus enable a reproducible setting of the carding elements
Electronic Cylinder Brake TC-CB
Cleaning and maintenance without delays
Depending on cylinder speed, it can take up to
twenty minutes until the cylinder comes to a
stand still for maintenance work. To considerably
shorten this cost intensive waiting period,
Trützschler offers the electronic, wear-resistant
brake for the cylinder TC-CB. It shrinks the braking
phase to one to two minutes, thus lowering the
time spent by the maintenance specialists, while
simultaneously increasing the card’s availa bility.
Infinitely variable rotary speed setting
TC-VSD for the TC 5-3
Frequency converters developed by Trützschler for the drives of the cylinder and of the
WEBFEED Unit
The electronic cylinder brake slows the cylinder down
in one to two minutes
Levelling without compromise
With this method, the drive motor of the cylinder
is controlled via a frequency converter. This allows
the infinitely variable setting of the re quired
cylinder speed directly on the monitor of the card,
which is especially helpful in case of frequent material
change. Furthermore, the infinitely variable
rotary speed setting TC-VSD can be used to e. g.
compensate the wear of the cylinder clothing by a
slightly higher cylinder speed, thus maintaining a
stable nep level . The motor for the three opening
rolls of the WEBFEED also has its own frequency
control when applying this option.
The changes of the WEBFEED speed can therefore
take place independent of the cylinder speed. All
preset speeds can be stored according to lot, and
are therefore reproducible at any time.
NEPCONTROL –
tested quality of the entire sliver
With the NEPCONTROL TC-NCT, only Trützschler
offers a real alternative to costly laboratory examinations.
TC-NCT monitors the card web during production
and provides information of the respective
quality. This eliminates separate laboratory examinations,
and every single metre of card sliver is
of tested quality.
Nep level always in sight
An digital camera films the web under the takeoff
roll approx. 20 times per second. In doing so,
the camera moves about the whole working width
of the card in a special, fully closed profile. This
optical principle copies the visual perception of a
person, and is thus superior to indirect measuring
methods. The high-performance computer, directly
attached to the profile, evaluates the pic tures with
a special analysis software, and discerns:
Neps
Trash particles
Seed coat fragments
With NEPCONTROL NCT it is also possible to establish
a distribution (profile) of the nep and particle
level over the working width. Possible clothing damage
becomes immediately visible this way.
The camera view of the web with trash particles (neps, seed coat fragments, trash parts)
Temporary or permanent quality monitoring
NEPCONTROL TC-NCT can be basically used for
the temporary checking of a group of cards or the
permanent checking of each individual card.
In the first case, the device is used for a few hours
(e. g. one shift) per card. This provides initial experiences
with online nep counting at a relatively low
capital expenditure. In the second case, each card is
permanently monitored. In this regard, it would be
practical to establish quality margins beforehand so
that the card can automatically shut down in case
of deviations.
The nep sensor is quick
and easy to install and to
remove

FLATCONTROL TC-FCT –
the benchmark for flat setting
The Flat Measuring System FLATCONTROL TC-FCT
from Trützschler allows fast and accurate calculation
of the distance between cylinder and flat. The
advantages of this system are manifold:
Better card sliver quality through reduced setting
tolerances
Extension of clothing lives
Quick flat setting
Reproducible, objectively verifiable settings
Flexible application on all Trützschler Cards with
aluminium flat bars
Independent of personnel influences
The measuring flat of the FLATCONTROL System in the machine
Standard equipment/
Options
For the time of the
measurement, three
normal flat bars
are replaced by a
measuring flat
Quick, objective and reproducible
basic adjustment
FLATCONTROL TC-FCT is also a great help when
performing the basic flat adjustment. First the
measuring flat is moved to the respective setting
position via remote control. Next the colour monitor
of the computer shows a diagram of the distance
to the cylinder. The technician can now adjust the
distance of flat to cylinder within seconds – considerably
more accurate than with feeler gauges.
Measurements over the entire flat area
The sensors of the FLATCONTROL measuring flat,
which take the place of three regular flat bars,
detect the distance to the cylinder clothing by
moving about the whole working area. A microprocessor
in the flat bar automatically stores all
measurement values. They are wirelessly transferred
to a notebook and displayed in form of a
diagram.
Targeted application to improve quality
FLATCONTROL TC-FCT provides the technicians
with a measuring system that helps prevent quality
losses caused by too widely set revolving flats.
The setting variation within one card group can systematically
be reduced with FLATCONTROL TC-FCT.
Thus, each card works within an optimal range,
increasing the average quality level.
Special Cards TC 5-1 S and TC 5-3 S for processing
of manmade fibres
The S-versions are special executions of the High Production Card TC 5. They have been designed
for processing of manmade fibres and differ by a series of coordinated modifications:
MULTI WEBCLEAN –
optimised for manmade fibres
It goes without saying that the interaction be tween
cylinder and carding area is also optimally coordinated
for the processing of manmade fibres.
Example for the processing of polyacrylic
For a maximum pre-opening, 8 carding segments with 16 clothing
strips in the pre-carding area are provided
In the post-carding zone, 8 carding elements in graduated
finenesses are practical
In case there is a change in the material to be
processed, the special carding elements (in graduated
finenesses) can be exchanged within minutes.
Once set, there is no need for readjustment.
SENSOFEED+ and DIRECTFEED:
Fibre carrying parts made of precious metal
Particularly for processing of manmade fibres, all
trunk parts are made of stainless steel, which is
agent. Structure and function are otherwise identical
to the model for cotton processing.
A can changer as it should be:
Quick and precise
The can coiler is a standard equipment of the
Trützschler Card TC 5. As an option, the Can
Changer TC-C is available for cans up to 1,500 mm
height and 1,000 mm diameter. The can changers
of the TC-C series, which are new developments,
are largely identical for the Trützschler Cards, the
Integrated Draw Frame IDF, and the Trützschler
Draw Frames. The fact that they have been
designed for the high delivery speed of a draw
frame also benefits the running behaviour of the
card. In addition – after long test series – the
exact position of sliver deposit in the cans was
optimised once more, resulting in improved flow
behaviour in the draw frame creel.
Better accessibility and simpler opera tion
Since the can changer stands freely in front of
the card, it is optimally accessible from all sides.
A service aisle between can changer and card
results in shorter distances between the cards.
The separate drive allows for very fine draft
adjustment between card and changer via the
touch screen of the card. Faulty drafts and sliver
breaks due to excessive tension draft are no
longer possible. Another plus for user-friendliness
is provided by the automatic sliver separation
during can changing.
