Strategic Planning Team at work
and at play
the Handprints
Handprints
Sheila B. Laurel
Puerto Princesa City, Palawan was our home for 4
days while brainstorming for strategic plans for our beloved
Institution. The hotel function room became our arena, and the
Hospital Management Team and Board of Directors were
gladiators. It was a major battlefield of wits. The sessions were
very intense and draining, but well worth it, as we have
collected the very best ideas and plans to guide our Hospital
for the next 5 years.
I was starstruck, being with the leaders of VRP Medical Center.
Since it was my first time to be with the members of the Board,
I expected a laid-back type of atmosphere, as I was used to
other corporations' style of strategic planning where there was
more R&R than real planning. VRP Medical Center's style is
work first, play came only after everything else was done. The
sessions usually last well into the night, and we could only go
out to enjoy the city during dinners.
The kind of dedication and commitment our leaders exhibited
was a source of inspiration to me. Amidst old VRP stories
exchanged, I came to get to know VRP Medical Center a bit
better, the humble beginnings, the camaraderie, and their
hopes and dreams for the Institution are grand, but achievable.
I have a vivid recollection of the handprint ceremony we did
before flying back home to Manila. We were asked to impress
handprints on a white board. It was meant to signify our
commitment to see our strategic plans come to life and
succeed. I was watching everyone's faces as they pressed
their hands and left their prints – and all I could see was love. I
came to realize that Love for the Institution binded everyone
together. Where there is love, there is commitment, loyalty and
dedication.
A real source of inspiration, don't you think?
Here's to a year full of love and hope, family! Cheers!
VRP’s Mission Impossible
July 10, 2009. Robotic voices greeted guests entering the VRP Hall. Secret agents manned the area,
in red shirts and shades. There was a surveillance team with digital cameras capturing each moment,
collaborating with a tactical and technical support team for the storage of valuable guests’ information.
The Top Agent was present, in deep cover, mingled with guests. A very important event was about to
happen...
VRP Medical Center’s Mission Impossible was to pass the EMS-OHSAS certification. It became
Mission Possible, as we revealed our hard-earned certificates to the guests – with a bang! The
seemingly endless preparation for OHSAS, the heartaches, and the suspense all add up to it being
Mission Impossible. And we are all living testimonies on how our cooperation and team effort made it
possible – all for one cause : to show the nation that VRP Medical Center is willing to raise the bar in
how we deliver healthcare to our patients, simply Because We Care.
The theme proved apt for the occassion. It sent out the message to the invited guests that we will treat
them as VIPs not just during the event but whenever they conduct business at the hospital. We also
want them to feel that the OHSAS certification will not be possible without them. The partnership with
the guests was our inspiration – whatever their association with us – as patients, partners, suppliers,
friends - they are all part of the VRP Medical Center Family and we will treat them as such.
Congratulations everyone! Another milestone achieved and worth celebrating!

We gave Manila a taste of our expertise and brand of caring that shines through during the 2009 Rogue
Magazine Black Tie Brawl Event. VRP Medical Center was the official health partner. Dr. Ramon Sison
headed his team of surgical residents to cater to the needs of the brawlers before and after fights. The
event was held at the Renaissance Hotel on October 25, 2009.
Witch’s Hunt at VRP
VRP Medical Center was invaded by a flock of young warlocks, witches, monsters and fairies for the
annual Halloween Party for kids on October 29, 2009. The youngsters rounded up the hospital
departments and doctor’s clinics in search for goodies written on their treasure hunt list. After filling up
their halloween bags with candies and treats, the kids were treated to a Halloween Program. Scary
snacks and games were also prepared for them.
A Tribute to Dr. Conrado S. Dayrit
A Valentine in July
Voluntary Blood Donation has always been a major advocacy
here at VRP Medical Center. We are one with the Department
of Health to push for 100% Voluntary Blood Donation in 2010.
Our efforts are led by no less than Dr. Tomas P. Maramba, Jr.
Voluntary Blood Donors are given tribute every month of July,
and as a way of saying thanks to our heroes, a Valentinethemed
event was made possible during the month. Certificates
were presented to those who unselfishly braved their fears of
donating blood to serve the needy. They are heroes, indeed!
A Valentine in July aimed to campaign for safe voluntary blood
donation and to generate more donors. Amidst the roses,
hearts and chocolates afloat on that day, we spread the love by
helping save more lives. Many blood donors were enticed to
give blood on that dat. Also, the Director for Blood Services of
the Philippine National Red Cross, Dr. Monina Nalupta, inspired
many by reiterating positive effects of voluntary blood donation
to the donor’s health.
Dr. Maramba was also surprised as the Voluntary Blood Donors
Club prepared a program to thank him for his leadership and
guidance.
What a way to celebrate love! Let us all be heroes and donate
blood today!
Dr. Conrado S. Dayrit’s contributions to the
Institution and to the medical practice can
never be measured. He was “Tatang” to his
colleagues, a mentor, a friend, and everything
what a healer should be. It is a fitting tribute
that we renamed the Intensive Care Unit after
his name.
On July 2, 2009, on the occasion of the ICU
renaming, an exhibit of the life and times of Dr.
Dayrit was displayed as his friends, family and
colleagues gathered and exchanged fond
memories of their dear Tatang.
