been undertaken for Railways throughout the

CABLE PRoCESSINg 

We have recently invested in a new state of 

the art cable processing system by Ramatech 

of Switzerland, believed to be the only one 

of its type in the Uk. The heart of the system 

is the Ramatech Speedy Cutting, Stripping 

and Marking Machine. The system can 

cut and strip cable up to 35 mm diameter 

and between 250 mm and 1000 mm in 

length. The ink marking process has been 

successfully used in a number of railway and 

transportation applications. 

AuToCAD 

The lPA group can provide a number of 

CAD solutions depending upon customer 

requirements. These include Bently 

MicroStation V8, IBM CATIA V5 and 

Solidworks 2004. not only does this provide 

a flexibility of design approach, it also allows 

the transmission and receipt of drawings 

and 3D information in the commonly used 

file formats. This requirement has become 

increasingly important with suppliers 

and customers enabling their own design 

cycles to be shortened. All drawing files 

are managed electronically by a full ‘issue 

control’ software package. This enables CAD 

users to manage, create and edit designs 

whilst ensuring revision accuracy and 

traceability.

guarantee leak proof operation in any 

position with no adverse effect to capacity or

• Electrolyte Suspension System 

All FULLRIVER batteries utilize an electrolyte 

suspension system consisting of a high 

porosity, glass fibre material which in 

conjunction with plates, totally absorb and 

contain the electrolyte. 

• Gas Generation 

FUllRIVeR batteries incorporate a builtin 

design that controls gas generation and 

induces recombination of more than 99% of 

gases generated during float usage. 

• Maintenance Free Operation 

There is no need to check specific gravity of 

the electrolyte or add water to FUllRIVeR 

batteries during float service life. In 

fact, there is no provision for this type of 

maintenance. 

• Low Pressure Valve Regulated System 

All FUllRIVeR batteries are equipped with 

safety release valves, designed to operate 

between 2 and 5 psi and automatically 

reseal. hence, there is never an excessive 

accumulation of gas within the battery.

• Negative plates 

negative plates are plate electrodes of which 

a grid frame of lead-tin-calcium alloy holds 

spongy lead as the active material. 

• Electrolyte 

Diluted sulphuric acid is used as the medium 

for conducting ions in the electromechanical 

reaction in the battery. 

• Separators 

Separators, which retain electrolyte and 

prevent shorting between positive and 

negative plates, adopt a non-woven fabric of 

fine glass fibres which is chemically stable in 

the diluted sulphuric acid electrolyte. Being 

highly porous, separators retain electrolyte 

for the reaction of active materials in the 

plates. 

• Valve (one way valve) 

The valve is comprised of a one-way valve 

made of material such as neoprene. When 

gas is generated in the battery under 

extreme overcharge condition due to 

erroneous charging, charger malfunctions 

or other abnormalities, the vent valve opens 

to release excessive pressure in the battery 

and maintain the gas pressure within specific 

range (7.1 to 43.6kPa). During ordinary use 

of the battery, the vent valve is closed to shut 

out outside air and prevent oxygen in the air 

from reacting with the active material in the 

negative electrodes. 

• Positive and negative electrode terminals 

Positive and negative electrode terminals 

may be faston tab type, bolt fastening 

type, threaded post type, or lead wire type, 

depending on the type of the battery. Sealing 

of the terminal is achieved by a structure 

which secures long adhesive-embedded 

paths and by the adoption of strong epoxy 

adhesives.

Materials of the body and cover of the battery 

case are ABS resins, unless otherwise 

specified.

batteries may be seen as 3rd 

generation (1980’s) technology. 

Pocket plate is 1st generation (1919) 

and Sintered Plate is 2nd generation 

(1950’s). The Fibre Electrode 

Technology has been provided by 

DAUG, Germany (research venture 

of Mercedes Benz & Volkswagen). 

HBL’s NCFP Batteries are available 

both as single cells of 1.2 V and as 

Blocks of individual cells thermally 

welded together of multiple voltages & 

capacities. 

These batteries use Fibre Plate 

electrodes. The three Dimensional 

Fibre Structure in the plate provides 

a very high conducting density. The 

advantages of this technology is its 

low internal resistance, high rates 

of discharge, improved recharge 

capability and lower weight with a 

high cycle life. The Ni-Cad Fibre Plate 

batteries are designed as L,M,H and X 

types to suit customers requirements. 

These batteries conform to IEC 60623 

and are certified by Intertek ETL 

SEMKO. They also conform to BS6260, 

DIN 40771 and other International 

Standards.

LPA Niphan terminal systems can be 

supplied in either piece part or fully 

assembled format. The stud terminals 

are cold forged rollthreaded Grade 8.8 

steel offering a consistent high quality 

thread. Standard sizes are metric but 

UNC is available on request. 

The 10mm rail system offers both M4 

and M5 thread whilst the 20mm 

TERMINAL RAIL ASSEMBLIES 

PRoDuCT RANgE 

system offers M5 through to M12 with 

the addition of high voltage and push on 

type terminals. 

Both systems can be supplied with 

integral fixing bolts or bushes 

allowing rapid installation into 

equipment panels. 

Since the introduction of this 

technology in the mid 1980’s we have 

featured on the majority of UK projects 

and have supplied product on vehicles 

for use in overground, underground,

The assembly is made up from any selection of 

components mounted onto the appropriate size rail. End 

clamps must always be used at each end of the assembly 

to prevent components from falling off the rail. 

The mounting rail can be supplied with any size fixing 

holes, bushes, or captive bolts to suit application 

requirements. Note that captive bolts are M4 for10mm rail 

and M6 for 20mm rail. 

Terminals can be linked together by the use of shunts and 

should the configuration you require not be listed in this 

catalogue, then please contact us with your requirements. 

Assemblies can also be fitted with either snap on or hinged 

covers. Assembly drawings can be individual 

or multiple item, see examples.
