POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMEN
The Polyflex binder range consists of high polymer content sBs modified bitumens.
PRINcIPaL aPPLIcaTION
Polyflex 65 is mainly used in thin layer surface courses (thin layer asphalt). It is also used in stone
mastic asphalt (SMA). The binder is also recommended for asphalt concrete or macadam base/
binder courses where increased flexibility of the pavement layer is required.
aDvaNTagEs OF POLYFLEX IN HOT MIXEs
• Improved durability.
• Better aggregate coating.
• Increased resistance to rutting.
• Improved ageing properties.
• Increased resistance to fatigue.
• Improved performance at extreme road temperatures.
BENEFITs OF UsINg sBs POLYMER
Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) gives bitumen the following properties:
• Enhanced storage stability.
• Increase in viscosity/stiffness.
• Increase in softening point.
• Decrease in brittle point.
• Increase in tensile strength.
• Increase in ductility.
The Polyflex range also includes Polyflex 75 and Polyflex 90.
Polyflex 75 is recommended for use in Porous Asphalt.
Polyflex 90 is recommended for surface course mixes which require additional
binder film thickness to improve durability and rut resistance.
Recommended Temperature:
Recommended Storage Temperature 165°C
The storage temperature should not exceed 200°C
