machines for the building sector. It has been our target to place technical high developed special<br />

Disk crack milling machine for repair of cracks at concrete or<br />

asphalt road surfaces<br />

Environment-friendly concrete and black surface milling machine for low-cost repair of wildly erratic<br />

cracks in road surfaces and so on. The crack is milled with a diamond milling cutter by the way of<br />

dry cutting procedure and then can be filled and sealed with a sealing compound.<br />

The disk crack milling machine 5060 can be used excellently for milling expansion joints when<br />

applying the road coating.<br />

The devices are suitable to work-up filled bitumen materials, fillers<br />

and casting compounds<br />

The robust constructions which are made practice-oriented for the building site for<br />

professionals guarantee a high melting capacity and fast heating and have at the same<br />

time a low gas consumption.<br />

The heating is done directly or indirectly by thermal oil by using a thermostatic controlled<br />

propane gas burner.<br />

In case of indirectly heated boilers the temperature of the melting material and also the<br />

thermal oil is controlled.

Casting compound tilt boiler with heat protection shield<br />

with high-powered propane beam burner, removable inner boiler and dial<br />

thermometer for temperature control.<br />

Due to the fact that a flame-shield is placed inside the combustion chamber<br />

the boiler bottom is protected to be admitted directly by the burner flame and<br />

so an overheating of the melting material above the boiler bottom is perfectly<br />

prevented. Bitumen is poured by tilting the boiler in the tilting frame. The<br />

heating is done by hot-air. Nominal content: 50 Liter<br />

Do you know that while using the standard propane burners with a noise emission higher than 85 dB(A)<br />

you have to wear ear protectors? Only 3dB(A) more cause a doubling of the danger for your hearing.<br />

<strong>Grün</strong> propane silent burners reduce the noise nearly by half at full capacity and decrease the danger for<br />

your hearing at approx. 80%. The light and handy burners facilitate a working without exhausting. Due to the low weight of the<br />

burner head, a top-heaviness combined with a constant pressure on the worker’s forearm is inexistent. The optionally offered<br />

As generally known, cracks arise in bituminous coverings on roads unfortunately nearly everywhere in time and even the centre length seams, at<br />

which one side of the road is connected with the other, often cracks - as well as connections to the old covering of asphalted diggings after laying<br />

cable, pipes and so on. A repair of the cracks, which is carried out in time and technically accurate extends the life time of the roads considerably.<br />

Otherwise water, de-icing salt and dirt penetrate into the surface, come below the sealing coat and lead to cracks, breaks and to damage of the<br />

surface especially in the winter months with frequent changes between frost and dew. In order to avoid financial losses, economical maintenance<br />

works should be carried out in time to avoid that a complete new covering is necessary. GRÜN offers useful technical solutions for mastering<br />

the problem of cracks.<br />

At first it is important, that the cracks are prepared proper for the sealing of joints. For this works disk crack milling cutters and hot air burners, lancetype<br />

are available.<br />

The most cost-effective and fast solution for preparing cracks is using a propane hot air burner, lance-type. The hot-air burner, lance-type can be<br />

used without problems and user-friendly and a very high working capacity is reached. The hot air burner, lance-type works with propane gas.<br />

Additionally compressed air is supplied by means of a compressor. The compressor should have an air capacity of at least 1,5 m³ at 6 bar pressure.<br />

Only hot air escapes from the hot air funnel, so that the bituminous parts of the road covering can not be burned. The result of the connection of hot<br />

air and compressed air pressure is, that the crack gets free of dirt and simultaneously is dried, so that at the sealing of the crack with hot casting<br />

compound a very good adhesion is reached. The hot air temperature can be regulated up to approx. 900°C.<br />

A further advantage of the hot air burner, lance-type is, that even in late autumn at low temperatures and cold wet weather a successful repair of<br />

cracks is possible.<br />

A further kind of crack preparing is to mill with disk crack milling cutters. The lightweight, handy devices, optional with drive unit, can be loaded and<br />

unloaded from transport vehicles without problems and without additional auxiliaries. The milling is done by means of diamond disks, which prepare<br />

the crack by the way of dry cutting.<br />

Because of the good cutting capacity of diamond disks only low expenditure of energy is necessary in order to guide the device. By means of the<br />

little disk diameter of only 150 mm and the special design of the disk it is possible to follow even an erratic running crack very well. Diamond disks<br />

have – compared with hard metal milling cutters – a very good service life, reworking the disk as e. g. the regrinding of hard metal milling cutters is<br />

not necessary.<br />

Because you have to reckon in construction site business with, that regrinding is not done or is done to late, you have to proceed on the assumption<br />

that at hard metal milling cutters the working capacity decreases very fast and an increased abrasion by means of working with blunt disk occurs.<br />

The service life will be much shorter in praxis therefore as at using diamond disks.<br />

The disk crack milling cutter is equipped additionally with a dust aspirator, which can be used wherever appropriate danger zones as e. g. parking<br />

cars, residential buildings and so on by means of dust development occur.<br />

In principle the quality of joint and crack sealing becomes better by means of milling rather than preparing the crack only with the hot air burner,<br />

lance-type, because more casting compound can be filled in and by it a higher extensibility is given. The best is to clean and dry the crack after<br />

milling with a disk crack milling cutter additionally with a hot air burner, lance-type. In this way it optimal conditions for the durability of the joint and<br />

crack sealing are achieved.<br />

Which material should be used for filling the crack?<br />

Long-term tests have shown, that fort his purpose hot casting compound is just right. This material, usually on base of bitumen, is enriched with<br />

filling material and elastomers, which guarantee its durability and extensibility. However these materials are very temperature-sensitive and must not<br />

be overheated during processing. We offer such materials on request.<br />

GRÜN produces different devices for preparing, that means melting of hot casting compound, depending on the volume of works, which should be<br />

carried out:<br />

Small boiler VK 50 and Joint and Crack Sealing Device VG 50, 50 l content.<br />

These devices are used for small works and are equipped with a flame shield in order to avoid, that the very hot propane gas flame gets directly<br />

below the boiler bottom and burns ingredients of the casting compound and destroying the extensibility. With the joint and crack sealing device VG<br />

50 the crack can be filled directly overlapping by means of a screed box. The device can be equipped additionally with a dispensing unit for<br />

dispensing in order to achieve a better grip of the sealing.<br />

A high quality processing can be achieved in that way, that the material is melted in so called indirectly heated boilers via thermal oil. GRÜN<br />

offers these devices with hand-operated or motor-driven stirring units. A thermostatically regulated propane burner, which is controlled as well<br />

by the thermal oil as by the casting compound in order to avoid overheating, belongs to the equipment.<br />

Very often devices with 90 or 180 l content (device types: HR 90 I / HR 180 I / MR 180 i) are used by e. g. road construction and building<br />

companies for medium works.

After the material has been prepared in the casting compound boiler, it has to be filled in joint sealing applicators with 10 l content. After that the<br />

material has to be filled into the crack and the crosswise cracks via the screed box with a width of approx. 6 – to 8 cm.<br />

This overlapping joint and crack sealing is very important in order to avoid that water flows into the crosswise cracks again and leads to further<br />

damages. The joint and crack sealing devices can optionally be equipped with a burner for keeping warm the material. Flowing out of the material is<br />

controlled by means of the drain cock, which can be opened and closed via the Bowden wire at the driving beam.<br />

We offer casting compound boilers on high-speed trailer or for mounting on a truck with integrated sealing pump for professional and fast<br />

processing. Using this pump the casting compound can be filled directly from the boiler into the crack and/or the joint, which has to be sealed.<br />

Professional repair of cracks can be carried out e. g. in the way, that a unit is created as follows:<br />

Pulling vehicle (small truck) with compressor, gas bottles and casting compound.<br />

Coupled casting compound boiler with pump or boiler mounted on a truck.<br />

In this case a person walks in front, who operates the hot air burner, lance-type and cleans and warms-up the crack. Then casting<br />

compound is filled into the melted crack with the integrated pump from the casting compound boiler with a sealing can and a screed box.<br />

This way a very good adhesion of the road covering is reached, without the necessity of priming.<br />

With this working method approx. 1500 to 2000 m cracks can be repaired a day.<br />

Casting Compound Boiler, RVK 600 i, RVK 450 i and RVK 180 i<br />

The devices are equipped with so-called standing, round boilers. Characteristic feature of this construction are short heating times, biggest possible<br />

melting capacity at low heat losses and low energy consumption. The preparing of the melting material is carried out economically and materialfriendly<br />

with indirect heating via thermal oil. A double vessel is integrated into a double outer cover, which is isolated with mineral fibre insulating<br />

boards.<br />

The heating of the melting material via the thermal oil is carried out as well at the vessel bottom as at the side walls of the vessel. As the stokehold<br />

is between double vessel and outer cover, the emission losses of the melting material to the outside are very low. In the vessel is a stirrer with<br />

vertical agitator shaft and skew agitating arms, which run close to the boiler bottom and keep the bottom free from dropping filling material and<br />

guarantee good mixing of the melting material. Additional new casting compound is filled directly into the hot melting material, which causes a much<br />

better melting capacity compared with dripping off via a heat roast.<br />

This way boilers with smaller volume can be used, which have the same capacity as much bigger boilers, so that they can be used for jobs with very<br />

high sealing volume, too, e. g. you may calculate with a melting capacity of approx. 3,5 t a day at the RVK 450 i, at the RVK 180 i with approx.<br />

1,5 t.<br />

The boilers are equipped with a propane vortex beam burner, which is regulated as well by the thermal oil as by the melting material<br />

thermostatically. Only this way it can be guaranteed that the casting compound as well can not be overheated as can not be filled into the joint in too<br />

cold condition, which is absolutely necessary for a qualitative perfect sealing. On request the RVK 450 I is available with thermostatically regulated,<br />

fully automatic light oil burner.<br />

The stirring unit of the devices is equipped with an overload fuse with simultaneous optical sign at blocking. All functions can be operated at the<br />

central control box. The pump capacity can be adjusted to suit the requirements.<br />

Casting compound boilers, especially the devices with integrated sealing pump, can not only be used for crack repair, but also for sealing of joints e.<br />

g. at bridge building, sealing of joints at concrete motorways or other concrete connections on airports with concrete slabs, in road construction for<br />

rail sealing as well as for pavement sealing.<br />

Accessories as screed boxes, bitumen buckets, sealing cans and above all hand burners, which are required in great quantities complete the<br />

delivery program for the road construction sector. The propane burners produced by GRÜN are very robust devices, suitable for the rough usage on<br />

construction sites. Most of the burners are equipped with stainless steel heads. GRÜN also offers very special burners, which match the special<br />

demands made this sector.<br />

Such as the bully burner, which has a very sharp, powerful flame, which allows to warm-up and melt asphalt surface in order to prepare them for<br />

repair works. Also the 7-headed burner, which is specially used for bridge insulation and the heavy duty felt applicator for the same purpose, which<br />

is even accepted by Otto-Graf-Institute (German acceptance institution for bridge insulation material and processing units), have to be mentioned.<br />
