machines for the building sector. It has been our target to place technical high developed special

Disk crack milling machine for repair of cracks at concrete or 

asphalt road surfaces 

Environment-friendly concrete and black surface milling machine for low-cost repair of wildly erratic 

cracks in road surfaces and so on. The crack is milled with a diamond milling cutter by the way of 

dry cutting procedure and then can be filled and sealed with a sealing compound. 

The disk crack milling machine 5060 can be used excellently for milling expansion joints when 

applying the road coating.

The special design of the machines allows perfectly to follow “wildly erratic cracks“. 

The conical shaped and with diamonds equipped disk, which works by the way of dry cutting 

procedure guarantees a very good and optimal cutting result for the subsequent sealing of 

joints. 

The powerful aspirator allows an environment-friendly work, even in residential areas. 

The traction drive allows easy and fatigue-free working.

Hot-air burner, lance type for drying, melt on and blow-down 

of cracks and joints in road surfaces. 

Creates perfect conditions for the subsequent sealing of joints. 

The low propane gas operating pressure with a maximum of 0.5 bar guarantees a longlasting 

maximal heating capacity with low gas consumption. 

Design with thermal shield, deflector, wheels for hand transport and automatic trigger for 

actuation of the working flame and the compressed air.

Boilers for Casting Compounds with 

Hand Operated Agitator or Motor Driven Agitator 

The devices are suitable to work-up filled bitumen materials, fillers 

and casting compounds 

The robust constructions which are made practice-oriented for the building site for 

professionals guarantee a high melting capacity and fast heating and have at the same 

time a low gas consumption. 

The heating is done directly or indirectly by thermal oil by using a thermostatic controlled 

propane gas burner. 

In case of indirectly heated boilers the temperature of the melting material and also the 

thermal oil is controlled.



Casting compound tilt boiler with heat protection shield 

with high-powered propane beam burner, removable inner boiler and dial 

thermometer for temperature control. 

Due to the fact that a flame-shield is placed inside the combustion chamber 

the boiler bottom is protected to be admitted directly by the burner flame and 

so an overheating of the melting material above the boiler bottom is perfectly 

prevented. Bitumen is poured by tilting the boiler in the tilting frame. The 

heating is done by hot-air. Nominal content: 50 Liter 

Casting compound boiler VK 50 HR

With thermostatically controlled propane vortex beam burner regulated

control. Drain cock, wheels for hand transportation, and double sheet 

insulation. Drive of the agitator by electric gear motor 0.55 kW, 230V. 

Perfect mixing of the melting material is guaranteed by the vertical 

agitator shaft with horizontal agitating arms, placed directly above the boiler 

bottom, which lifts the filler and reduces the deposit at the bottom.

Do you know that while using the standard propane burners with a noise emission higher than 85 dB(A) 

you have to wear ear protectors? Only 3dB(A) more cause a doubling of the danger for your hearing. 

Grün propane silent burners reduce the noise nearly by half at full capacity and decrease the danger for 

your hearing at approx. 80%. The light and handy burners facilitate a working without exhausting. Due to the low weight of the 

burner head, a top-heaviness combined with a constant pressure on the worker’s forearm is inexistent. The optionally offered 

armrest also reduces the strain, especially while drying.

Chassis 

High-speed trailer with single or tandem axle with 

overrunning brake and hand brake, height-adjustable 

drawbar, lighting and acceptance of testing and research 

laboratory (TÜV). 

Optional hitch according to DIN or car ball head coupling. 

Travelling mechanism 

Hydraulically driven tail wheel mounted at the front of the 

chassis. 

A cone brake avoids that the boiler rolls unintentional in 

case that the hydraulics or the diesel engine fail. 

Slight lifting or setting of the tail wheel by means of a 

hydraulic cylinder. 

At the tandem axle chassis the fist axle is released. 

Maximal driving speed 4 km/h, climbing ability 5%. 

Depending on the equipment the steering is carried out 

from the front side by means of a steering tie rod, which is 

mounted at the fixing of the tail wheel support. 

Steering from the rear side is done by means of a 

hydraulically driven steering wheel. 



Stirrer

Special devices for the transport of mastic asphalt 

and gum mastic 

Superstructure on a truck chassis, trailer chassis and/or semi-trailer chassis which must 

provide the necessary load-carrying capacity. 

Low dead weight, large boiler diameter but at the same time combined with a small overall 

height, short design, forceful agitator drive and a large drain cock are the special 

advantages of this model range.

Boiler 

Boiler shell, front walls and 

agitating arms are made of 

specific steel, 8 mm strong, 

resistant to wear and heat. 

The complete boiler is very 

well isolated around with a 

mineral fiber insulation, 

60 mm. The outer cover of 

the boiler is made of anodized aluminium or 

high-gloss high-grade steel sheets (V2A). 

The large drain cock 

(600 x 360 mm) can 

be opened by two 

elevating rams. 

The agitator spindle rests at both sides at oversized 

ball bearings. 

The agitator spindle is driven by an hydrostatic 

shaft-mounted gear box which is connected with the 

front wall over a gear box. 

The sealing of the agitator spindle is a wear 

resistant packing box system. 

To reduce repair costs the agitator spindle, the 

packing box and the packing box lids are made with 

wearing parts. 

The agitating hands are made of wear resistant cast 

iron. 



A fixed mounted cat ladder and a mounted platform 

placed at the front wall guarantee a safe opening of 

the filling lid. 

Drive unit 

Two-cylinder or three-cylinder engine in 

soundabsorbing design. 

Capacity of diesel tank: 100 litre, placed lateral at 

the device. 

The agitator, the drain cock and the tilting device 

are controlled by a hydraulic control block with 

electrically operated valves and is placed at the 

diesel engine. The rotation speed of the agitator is 

stepless adjustable from 0 up to 8 rpm. 

The maximal turning moment of the agitator is 

20,000 newton-meter and/or 35,000 newton-meter.

Oil heating: 

Large tank for fuel oil, capacity: 2 x 100 litres, 

placed lateral at the device. 

Two-step fuel oil burner, brand: „Weishaupt“, type 

WL20, latest design with high heating capacity. 

230 Volt power supply with 800 W sine inverse 

rectifier of most modern technique. 

Gas heating: 

Two tanks for gas, capacity: 116 litres, placed 

lateral at the device. 

Two-step propane gas beam burner with high 

heating capacity. 



Heating system 

Optional available with oil-burner or propane gas 

burner. 

The boiler is protected by a large flame pipe and a 

smoke distribution box. 

Automatic safety temperature disconnection in case of 

to high boiler shell temperature. 

To avoid the overheating of the mixing material the 

burner system reduces the temperature short of 

reaching the set mixing material temperature. 

The burner is placed at the front wall. 

Electro- control box 

In case of danger it is possible to switch-off the system by 

emergency power-off switch. 

The regulator of the temperature is equipped with a large 

green temperature display. 

Tank level display for fuel oil and diesel. 

On-button for agitator with regulation for rotation speed, 

optical and audible indication in case of standstill. 

On-button for burner system with elapsed-time meter and

Devices for crack repair in asphalt coverings 



As generally known, cracks arise in bituminous coverings on roads unfortunately nearly everywhere in time and even the centre length seams, at 

which one side of the road is connected with the other, often cracks - as well as connections to the old covering of asphalted diggings after laying 

cable, pipes and so on. A repair of the cracks, which is carried out in time and technically accurate extends the life time of the roads considerably. 

Otherwise water, de-icing salt and dirt penetrate into the surface, come below the sealing coat and lead to cracks, breaks and to damage of the 

surface especially in the winter months with frequent changes between frost and dew. In order to avoid financial losses, economical maintenance 

works should be carried out in time to avoid that a complete new covering is necessary. GRÜN offers useful technical solutions for mastering 

the problem of cracks. 

At first it is important, that the cracks are prepared proper for the sealing of joints. For this works disk crack milling cutters and hot air burners, lancetype 

are available. 

The most cost-effective and fast solution for preparing cracks is using a propane hot air burner, lance-type. The hot-air burner, lance-type can be 

used without problems and user-friendly and a very high working capacity is reached. The hot air burner, lance-type works with propane gas. 

Additionally compressed air is supplied by means of a compressor. The compressor should have an air capacity of at least 1,5 m³ at 6 bar pressure. 

Only hot air escapes from the hot air funnel, so that the bituminous parts of the road covering can not be burned. The result of the connection of hot 

air and compressed air pressure is, that the crack gets free of dirt and simultaneously is dried, so that at the sealing of the crack with hot casting 

compound a very good adhesion is reached. The hot air temperature can be regulated up to approx. 900°C. 

A further advantage of the hot air burner, lance-type is, that even in late autumn at low temperatures and cold wet weather a successful repair of 

cracks is possible. 

A further kind of crack preparing is to mill with disk crack milling cutters. The lightweight, handy devices, optional with drive unit, can be loaded and 

unloaded from transport vehicles without problems and without additional auxiliaries. The milling is done by means of diamond disks, which prepare 

the crack by the way of dry cutting. 

Because of the good cutting capacity of diamond disks only low expenditure of energy is necessary in order to guide the device. By means of the 

little disk diameter of only 150 mm and the special design of the disk it is possible to follow even an erratic running crack very well. Diamond disks 

have – compared with hard metal milling cutters – a very good service life, reworking the disk as e. g. the regrinding of hard metal milling cutters is 

not necessary. 

Because you have to reckon in construction site business with, that regrinding is not done or is done to late, you have to proceed on the assumption 

that at hard metal milling cutters the working capacity decreases very fast and an increased abrasion by means of working with blunt disk occurs. 

The service life will be much shorter in praxis therefore as at using diamond disks. 

The disk crack milling cutter is equipped additionally with a dust aspirator, which can be used wherever appropriate danger zones as e. g. parking 

cars, residential buildings and so on by means of dust development occur. 

In principle the quality of joint and crack sealing becomes better by means of milling rather than preparing the crack only with the hot air burner, 

lance-type, because more casting compound can be filled in and by it a higher extensibility is given. The best is to clean and dry the crack after 

milling with a disk crack milling cutter additionally with a hot air burner, lance-type. In this way it optimal conditions for the durability of the joint and 

crack sealing are achieved. 

Which material should be used for filling the crack? 

Long-term tests have shown, that fort his purpose hot casting compound is just right. This material, usually on base of bitumen, is enriched with 

filling material and elastomers, which guarantee its durability and extensibility. However these materials are very temperature-sensitive and must not 

be overheated during processing. We offer such materials on request. 

GRÜN produces different devices for preparing, that means melting of hot casting compound, depending on the volume of works, which should be 

carried out: 

Small boiler VK 50 and Joint and Crack Sealing Device VG 50, 50 l content. 

These devices are used for small works and are equipped with a flame shield in order to avoid, that the very hot propane gas flame gets directly 

below the boiler bottom and burns ingredients of the casting compound and destroying the extensibility. With the joint and crack sealing device VG 

50 the crack can be filled directly overlapping by means of a screed box. The device can be equipped additionally with a dispensing unit for 

dispensing in order to achieve a better grip of the sealing. 

A high quality processing can be achieved in that way, that the material is melted in so called indirectly heated boilers via thermal oil. GRÜN 

offers these devices with hand-operated or motor-driven stirring units. A thermostatically regulated propane burner, which is controlled as well 

by the thermal oil as by the casting compound in order to avoid overheating, belongs to the equipment. 

Very often devices with 90 or 180 l content (device types: HR 90 I / HR 180 I / MR 180 i) are used by e. g. road construction and building 

companies for medium works.



After the material has been prepared in the casting compound boiler, it has to be filled in joint sealing applicators with 10 l content. After that the 

material has to be filled into the crack and the crosswise cracks via the screed box with a width of approx. 6 – to 8 cm. 

This overlapping joint and crack sealing is very important in order to avoid that water flows into the crosswise cracks again and leads to further 

damages. The joint and crack sealing devices can optionally be equipped with a burner for keeping warm the material. Flowing out of the material is 

controlled by means of the drain cock, which can be opened and closed via the Bowden wire at the driving beam. 

We offer casting compound boilers on high-speed trailer or for mounting on a truck with integrated sealing pump for professional and fast 

processing. Using this pump the casting compound can be filled directly from the boiler into the crack and/or the joint, which has to be sealed. 

Professional repair of cracks can be carried out e. g. in the way, that a unit is created as follows: 

Pulling vehicle (small truck) with compressor, gas bottles and casting compound. 

Coupled casting compound boiler with pump or boiler mounted on a truck. 

In this case a person walks in front, who operates the hot air burner, lance-type and cleans and warms-up the crack. Then casting 

compound is filled into the melted crack with the integrated pump from the casting compound boiler with a sealing can and a screed box. 

This way a very good adhesion of the road covering is reached, without the necessity of priming. 

With this working method approx. 1500 to 2000 m cracks can be repaired a day. 

Casting Compound Boiler, RVK 600 i, RVK 450 i and RVK 180 i 

The devices are equipped with so-called standing, round boilers. Characteristic feature of this construction are short heating times, biggest possible 

melting capacity at low heat losses and low energy consumption. The preparing of the melting material is carried out economically and materialfriendly 

with indirect heating via thermal oil. A double vessel is integrated into a double outer cover, which is isolated with mineral fibre insulating 

boards. 

The heating of the melting material via the thermal oil is carried out as well at the vessel bottom as at the side walls of the vessel. As the stokehold 

is between double vessel and outer cover, the emission losses of the melting material to the outside are very low. In the vessel is a stirrer with 

vertical agitator shaft and skew agitating arms, which run close to the boiler bottom and keep the bottom free from dropping filling material and 

guarantee good mixing of the melting material. Additional new casting compound is filled directly into the hot melting material, which causes a much 

better melting capacity compared with dripping off via a heat roast. 

This way boilers with smaller volume can be used, which have the same capacity as much bigger boilers, so that they can be used for jobs with very 

high sealing volume, too, e. g. you may calculate with a melting capacity of approx. 3,5 t a day at the RVK 450 i, at the RVK 180 i with approx. 

1,5 t. 

The boilers are equipped with a propane vortex beam burner, which is regulated as well by the thermal oil as by the melting material 

thermostatically. Only this way it can be guaranteed that the casting compound as well can not be overheated as can not be filled into the joint in too 

cold condition, which is absolutely necessary for a qualitative perfect sealing. On request the RVK 450 I is available with thermostatically regulated, 

fully automatic light oil burner. 

The stirring unit of the devices is equipped with an overload fuse with simultaneous optical sign at blocking. All functions can be operated at the 

central control box. The pump capacity can be adjusted to suit the requirements. 

Casting compound boilers, especially the devices with integrated sealing pump, can not only be used for crack repair, but also for sealing of joints e. 

g. at bridge building, sealing of joints at concrete motorways or other concrete connections on airports with concrete slabs, in road construction for 

rail sealing as well as for pavement sealing. 

Accessories as screed boxes, bitumen buckets, sealing cans and above all hand burners, which are required in great quantities complete the 

delivery program for the road construction sector. The propane burners produced by GRÜN are very robust devices, suitable for the rough usage on 

construction sites. Most of the burners are equipped with stainless steel heads. GRÜN also offers very special burners, which match the special 

demands made this sector. 

Such as the bully burner, which has a very sharp, powerful flame, which allows to warm-up and melt asphalt surface in order to prepare them for 

repair works. Also the 7-headed burner, which is specially used for bridge insulation and the heavy duty felt applicator for the same purpose, which 

is even accepted by Otto-Graf-Institute (German acceptance institution for bridge insulation material and processing units), have to be mentioned.
