Note. In answer to my inquiry, the Head of the Reading<br />

Room at the British Library replied that their copy of A<br />

Sweet Nosgay was purchased from Thomas Boone and Son on 4<br />

October 1871. The manuscript note which appears on leaf A7 a<br />

shows that the book had once belonged to a Thomas Atkins,<br />

about whom nothing is known. The note, as translated <strong>by</strong> the<br />

British Library's Department of Manuscripts, reads, "This<br />

book is Thomas atkins of that I have good witnes uppon<br />

[exchange that for a [deleted]] I have a hat [?] bond for it<br />

of William lepper." By the mid-nineteenth century, its<br />

ownership had passed to B. H. Bright, Esq., and <strong>by</strong> 18 62 it<br />

had been sold with the remainder of his library <strong>by</strong> Sothe<strong>by</strong>'s<br />

(Catalog No. 6026), where it was described as "probably<br />

unique." To whom Sothe<strong>by</strong>'s sold the volume, and how and<br />

when Thomas Boone and Son obtained the volume is unknown.<br />

Whether or not it is the same copy which Henry Green<br />

described in 18 66 as belonging to the Reverend Thomas<br />

Corser, the rector of Stand near Manchester (Ixviii, note)<br />

and the editor of Collectanea Anglo-Poetica, has not yet<br />
