YEAR 6 MINI-FETE – A GREAT SUCCESS Thank you to all Year 6 students for their efforts in making the Mini-fete a great success. They were very caring and demonstrated great leadership skills. Silly Sock Day Holsworthy Public School supports many charities locally, nationally and globally. We sponsor 2 children through World Vision. To raise money for our children this year we are holding a ‘Silly Sock’ day in Week 10 Thursday 20 September. If children wish to participate they are required to bring a gold coin donation on the day. Thank you in advance for supporting this cause. Miss Janes Premier’s Spelling Bee Congratulations to Ramisa Quader 3/4C, Prathik Subbanna 3/4C, Ashna Hegde 5/6T and Tahsin Islam 5/6A who will represent our school in the Premier’s Spelling Bee Regional competition on Monday 10 th September at Georges Hall Public School. Good luck! Mrs Winyard The Great Swap The “Great Book Swap”, took place in Week 6 as part of our Book Week celebrations. What a marvellous event this was. The quality and variety of books was outstanding. Many excited children visited the library several times in search of another book. I would personally like to thank all parents, children and teachers who donated pre loved books. The event was a great success, raising $594.70. The money will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundations who provide resources for children who live in remote indigenous communities. FRUIT ‘N’ VEG MONTH Pieces of fruit and vegetables will be sold each day at recess and lunch at the hall. Cost 20c a piece. Eating enough fruit and vegetables is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and is vital in reducing the risk of health-related disease. During Week 8, we will be participating in Fruit ‘n’ Veg Month. This is a fantastic chance for kids and their families to get excited about fruit and veg. FRUIT AND VEG: HOW MUCH SHOULD I BE EATING? Eating 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables is a good rule of thumb for the family in general. Take a moment to look at the table below to find out how many serves each member of your family needs to eat. AGE (years) VEGETABLES (serves) FRUIT (serves) 4 – 7 2 1 8 – 11 3 1 12 – 18 4 3 Adults 5 2 The amount of fruit and veg required by children changes, based on their age. Their level of activity should also be taken into account when considering their dietary needs. PLEASE REMEMBER – EVERY THURSDAY IS STUDENT BANKING DAY. Please make sure to leave the Banking Tokens in the Bank Book, as lost tokens cannot be replaced. Order the lunchbox and get the drink bottle Free! – School Student Banking Offer During the month of May, when a child redeems 10 silver tokens for a Dollarmites Lunchbox they will receive the Dollarmite Drink Bottle absolutely FREE. It is easy, just use your tokens to place your lunchbox order at the office and the drink bottle will be provided as part of your reward. Just see Natasha and Sophie on Thursday mornings, of any week, at the office if you need to redeem.
