2- <strong>Nikah</strong> al Muhallil. marrying a woman that<br />

has been trebly divorced, on the condition <strong>of</strong> his<br />

divorcing her after consummation <strong>of</strong> the marriage, in<br />

order thar she rnay become lawful to be remarried to<br />

the former husband. If the second husband has<br />

intended to ma-rry such a woman just for dre sa-ke <strong>of</strong><br />

legalizing her for her former husbald, or if they<br />

previously agreed on this, such marriage is invalid.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Allah has<br />

cursed rhe al-Muhallil r ;y16 rhe Muhalal 1ahu. (rbe<br />

former husband).<br />

3- Nika,h al Mut'ahz or the marriage <strong>of</strong><br />

pleasure, a marriage stipulated to be temporary. This<br />

marriage is automatically terminated at the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

agreed period which may last an hour, a day, a week,<br />

a month, or longer. This is fa-lse and iilegai type <strong>of</strong><br />

marriage, because it rurns a woman into a commodity<br />

which exchalges hands. Ir is also harmful to<br />

<strong>of</strong>fspring's w,ho would have no secure home to setde<br />

down in which they would be reared. <strong>The</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

this marriage is to fulfill carnal desire only, not to<br />

produce <strong>of</strong>fspnng. It was lardul only in the early<br />

stage <strong>of</strong> Islam for a very short period <strong>of</strong> time, and was<br />

later prohibited forever.<br />

4- <strong>The</strong> marriage <strong>of</strong> a Muslim woman to a<br />

non-Muslim wherher polytheist, or from rhe People<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Book</strong>. It is unlaMul for a Muslim woman to<br />

marry a non-Nlusiim. if such marriage takes place, it<br />

I <strong>The</strong> person who marries the divorced rvife as descnbed<br />

above.<br />

2 Mut'ah marriage is common among the Shiites only, bur<br />

forbidden by Ahlus Sunnah wal-Jama'ah. It is a form <strong>of</strong><br />

fornication.<br />
