1. Welcome<br />

SC Chair called the meeting at 8pm and welcomed the steering committee members<br />

and the invited attendees.


2. <strong>DASFAA</strong>'2004 Final Financial Report - by Kyu-Young Whang<br />

Kyu-Young Whang reported on the <strong>DASFAA</strong>’2004 final financial report. The<br />

conference made a pr<strong>of</strong>it <strong>of</strong> US$11,098, and half <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>it <strong>of</strong> amount<br />

US$5,549 was transmitted to the SC bank account. There were total 180<br />

participants including 16 free registrations.<br />

3. Report from the Treasurer - by Kyu-Young Whang on behalf <strong>of</strong><br />

Yoshihiko Imai<br />

Kyu-Young reported that the balance <strong>of</strong> the SC bank account to date is ¥2,068,750,<br />

which includes ¥597,237 (US$5,549) transferred from DAFAA’2004’s pr<strong>of</strong>it. The<br />

Financial Statement was distributed to SC members at the meeting.<br />

4. Report on <strong>DASFAA</strong>'<strong>2005</strong> - by Lizhu Zhou / Jianzhong Li<br />

Lizhu Zhou, PC Co-chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>DASFAA</strong> <strong>2005</strong>, gave a preliminary report on<br />

<strong>DASFAA</strong>’<strong>2005</strong>. There were 302 paper submissions from 20 countries/regions<br />

and these papers were reviewed by 89 PC members and 92 external reviewers.<br />

67 full papers and 15 short papers were accepted for presentation. He also<br />

presented the statistics on the PC members by country/region, paper<br />

submission and acceptance by country/region and by research area. For<br />

conference registrations, up to that night, there were total 117 registrations<br />

including 30 from China, 20 from Singapore, and 17 from USA. The conference<br />

financial status is about balance. Detailed financial report will be sent to SC in 3<br />

to 6 months time.<br />

5. Report on the organization <strong>of</strong> <strong>DASFAA</strong>'2006 - by Beng Chin Ooi / Tok<br />

Wang Ling<br />

Beng Chin Ooi and Tok Wang Ling reported on the status <strong>of</strong> <strong>DASFAA</strong>’2006. There are<br />

total 94 PC members; 36 from our region, 36 from Americas, 18 from Europe, and 4<br />

from other countries. Copies <strong>of</strong> the Preliminary <strong>DASFAA</strong>’2006 Call for Papers were<br />

distributed at the conference. A brief report on the budget and conference hotel was<br />

presented. PAKDD’2006 will be held in the same hotel with their last day overlaps with<br />

<strong>DASFAA</strong>’2006.

(b) Election for new Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer<br />

Tok Wang Ling and Yoshifumi Masunaga have served as SC chair and<br />

Vice Chair for their 2 year term. According to the Bylaws, Tok Wang Ling<br />

will become the Advisor for 2 years after <strong>DASFAA</strong>’<strong>2005</strong>. SC Chair<br />

nominated the current Vice Chair, Yoshifumi Masunaga, as the new Chair,<br />

and SC approved the nomination. Yoshifumi Masunaga then nominated<br />

Kyu-Young Whang as the new Vice Chair, and SC approved the<br />

nomination also. As Kyu-Young Whang is the current Secretary, so a new<br />

Secretary is needed. Yoshifumi Masunaga nominated Katsumi Tanaka as<br />

the new Secretary, and SC approved also. All the 3 nominees accepted<br />

the nominations and thanked SC for the approval. The terms <strong>of</strong> the new<br />

appointments are 2 years by the Bylaws. Yoshihiko Imai was reelected<br />

as Treasurer.<br />

(c) <strong>DASFAA</strong> SC memberships<br />

Yoshifumi Masunaga presented a table listed the SC memberships <strong>of</strong> the<br />

current and past SC members since the formation <strong>of</strong> <strong>DASFAA</strong> SC<br />

together with their appointments in the SC executive committee and the<br />

periods. Yoshifumi Masuanga will update the information and distribute it<br />

to the members together with the minutes <strong>of</strong> the meeting. SC chair<br />

thanked Yoshifumi Masunaga for his effort to collect the information on<br />

the SC memberships since the formation <strong>of</strong> <strong>DASFAA</strong> SC.<br />

(d) SC chair thanked Kyhyun Um for his contribution to the <strong>DASFAA</strong> as<br />

a SC member. SC Chair also thanked Ron Sacks-Davis and Frederick H.<br />

Lochovsky for serving as SC members for the past years.<br />

(e) SC members thanked Tok Wang Ling for his contribution as SC<br />

member, SC Vice Chair, and then SC Chair for the years since 1991.<br />

There was no other issue, the meeting ended at 10:25 pm.
