visitors. Adventure seekers<br />
enjoy more than 197,000<br />
acres <strong>of</strong> land and in excess<br />
<strong>of</strong> 500 miles <strong>of</strong> hiking trails,<br />
including 101 miles <strong>of</strong> the Appalachian Trail. Along the 105-mile<br />
Skyline Drive - a National Scenic Byway – visitors have access to<br />
75 scenic overlooks, four campgrounds, three lodging facilities,<br />
restaurants, shopping and educational features.<br />

Shenandoah River: The<br />
south fork <strong>of</strong> the Shenandoah<br />
River flows through the<br />
entire length <strong>of</strong> <strong>Page</strong> <strong>County</strong>,<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering a water playground<br />
for canoeing, tubing, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing and swimming.<br />
George Washington National<br />
Forest: On the county’s western<br />
border, the George Washington<br />
Forest, extending into West Virginia,<br />
is the largest publicly-owned land<br />
base for recreation in the eastern<br />
United States. It features more than<br />
100 recreation sites ranging from<br />
picnic and camping areas to scenic<br />
overlooks and ATV trails. Deer, bear and small game hunting and<br />
trout fishing are permitted.<br />
<strong>Page</strong> <strong>County</strong> Heritage Association Historic Properties:<br />
The Association maintains four properties significant to the history<br />
<strong>of</strong> the county. Massanutten School<br />
is a restored one-room school next<br />
to the <strong>Page</strong> Public Library in <strong>Luray</strong>.<br />
In the nearby village <strong>of</strong> Hamburg,<br />
Calendine, Hamburg Country Store<br />
Calendine<br />
and the Mauck Meeting House are<br />
located. Calendine, c. 1852, was<br />
the residence <strong>of</strong> the famed sculptor<br />
William Randolph Barbee. Though its origins are much older, the<br />
country store is set in the 1940s. Dating from around 1770, the<br />
Mauck Meeting House is a Virginia and National<br />

<strong>Luray</strong> Singing Tower: The 117-foot Belle Brown<br />
Northcott Memorial Carillon contains 47 bells and is<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the nation’s major carillons. Free recitals are<br />
held spring through fall in this scenic park opposite<br />
<strong>Luray</strong> Caverns.
