ABOUT INSURGO
Insurgo Theater Movement is Las Vegas' leading independent theater company and it's most prolific
servant and explorer of the theatrical form. In the last year Insurgo oversaw the creation of The Bastard
Theater, the development of a satellite theater at the Erotic Heritage Museum, the creation of a dedicated
ensemble that presents specific productions formed from rigorous year-round experimental training,
fourteen full productions staged, the development of the Insurgo Original Series taking themed ten-minute
and full-length scripts from first read to full production, and the presentations of workshops and lectures
at CSN, UNLV, EHM and more. Insurgo was recently awarded Best Of The City by Desert Companion
Magazine and Seven Magazine. Last August open auditions were held city-wide for thirteen slots to form
a dedicated acting ensemble for a yearlong experiment at Insurgo. Ranging in age from teens to midforties,
13 actors from vastly different backgrounds formed the new core of Insurgo Theater Movement.
The actors train every week for four hours with specialists from different theatrical disciplines. From
Chekhov to Meisner to step-dance to opera, the ensemble studies different techniques throughout the year
to aid in the creation of three specific ensemble productions. The first (last November’s THE
CRUCIBLE), a production of a substantive text done in the intended context/setting. The second (UBU
ROI), an experimental production of a text ripe for adaptation, theatricality and assault. The third (coming
in August), the point of the experiment ~ a completely original production created by the ensemble in a
new theatrical language. The ensemble is led by Ernie Curcio (Head of Acting), Brandon McClenahan
(Artistic Director), and Michael Drake (Ensemble Captain).
