Groupwise Findings <strong>of</strong> Consumer Price Indices<br />
For Rural & Urban Areas In Maharashtra<br />
May, 2009 (Provisional) (Base year 2003=100)<br />
RURAL URBAN<br />
General Index<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 1.54 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* The increase in this index is mainly due to<br />
increase in prices <strong>of</strong> jowar,turdal,groundnut &<br />
refind oil, potato, tomato, brinjal, palak,apple,<br />
garlic <strong>and</strong> sugar in ‘food’ group.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Food group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 3.11 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This increase is the combined effect <strong>of</strong><br />
increase in the prices <strong>of</strong> jowar, turdal, moong<br />
dal, groundnut & ,refind oil, potatto, tomato,<br />
brinjal, cabbage, palak,green chilly,apple, garlic,<br />
sugar <strong>and</strong> decrease in prices <strong>of</strong> goatmeat <strong>and</strong><br />
onion.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Pan, Supari <strong>and</strong> Tobacco group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 0.09 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This increase is mainly due to combined<br />
effect <strong>of</strong> increase in prices <strong>of</strong> supari & decease<br />
in prices <strong>of</strong> country liquor & pan leaf.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> fuel, power, light & lubricant group<br />
* As compared to April,2009 this index<br />
increased by 0.24 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This increase is mainly due to increase in the<br />
prices <strong>of</strong> firewood <strong>and</strong> matches.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Clothing, Bedding <strong>and</strong> footwear<br />
group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
decreased by 0.03 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This decrease is due to decrease in prices <strong>of</strong><br />
banian.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Miscellaneous group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
decreased by 0.52 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This decrease is mainly due to the combined<br />
effect <strong>of</strong> decrease in the prices <strong>of</strong> bath &<br />
detergent soap, tooth paste, crocin& doctor fees<br />
& increase in prices <strong>of</strong> steel utensils .<br />
General Index<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 1.36 per cent in May 2009.<br />
* The increase in this index is mainly due to<br />
increase in prices <strong>of</strong> milk, groundnut oil, potato,<br />
tomato, brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower,<br />
palak,apple <strong>and</strong> sugar in ‘food’ group.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Food group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 3.19 per cent in May ,2009.<br />
* This increase is the combined effect <strong>of</strong><br />
increase in prices <strong>of</strong> wheat, jowar,turdal, milk,<br />
groundnut oil, potato, tomato, brinjal, cabbage,<br />
cauliflower, palak, apple, garlic,sugar <strong>and</strong><br />
decrease in prices <strong>of</strong> refind oil,onion,<br />
Readymade meal & tea.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Pan, Supari <strong>and</strong> Tobacco group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 0.26 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This increase is due to increase in prices <strong>of</strong><br />
readymade pan.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> fuel, power, light & lubricant group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
increased by 0.21per cent in May ,2009.<br />
* This increase is mainly due to increase in the<br />
prices <strong>of</strong> firewood <strong>and</strong> LPG Gas,<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Clothing, Bedding <strong>and</strong> footwear<br />
group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
decreased by 0.48 per cent in May ,2009.<br />
* This decrease is due to the decrease in the<br />
prices <strong>of</strong> cloth for shirt,,readymade shirt, banian<br />
& rubbery slipper.<br />
Index <strong>of</strong> Miscellaneous group<br />
* As compared to April, 2009 this index<br />
decreased by 0.40 per cent in May, 2009.<br />
* This decrease is mainly due to the combined<br />
effect <strong>of</strong> decrease in prices <strong>of</strong> crocin,doctor fee<br />
pathologycharges,news paper,cable charges,bath<br />
soap, talcum powder,tailoring & washing<br />
charges <strong>and</strong> increase in the prices <strong>of</strong> note<br />
book,petrol ,washing powder.
