STUDENT DRESS POLICY
Students are expected to dress in clothes that are suitable for
school activities. Please no spaghetti straps, halter tops, short
shorts, and clothing bearing inappropriate messages.
Separate gym strip is required for PE including running
shoes.
Students are expected to dress in a manner that
reflects purpose and propriety. Students wearing
inappropriate attire will be asked to cover up, change,
or go home.
• Clothing is expected to be appropriate to a
working and learning environment.
• Students must refrain from wearing clothes
that promote drugs and alcohol, or portray sexual,
violent or racist themes.
• Students must refrain from wearing clothing
that is derogatory regarding a person’s ethnic
background, national origin, religious belief, sexual
orientation or disability.
• Clothing must cover underwear, cleavage,
bottoms and midriffs. Skirts must be no shorter than
mid-thigh. Hats and head apparel must not be worn
other than for religious purposes.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Electronic devices (cell phones or music players) are
not permitted during class time at Brock Middle School.
Students may use electronic devices at breaks between
classes and at lunch in the halls and outside the building.
MEALS PROGRAM
For those families that participate in the meals program please
remember to submit your forms in by the due date on the
bottom of the form to ensure that your student receives their
lunch in a timely manner. Thank you for your participation in
our meals program.
ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY
Regular attendance and punctuality are important
factors in school success. Parents/guardians are
requested to phone the school (250-376-1232) if their
son or daughter is going to be absent. A note from
home is also requested if a student is going to sign out
early or be late for class.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Remember all school supplies are to be supplied by each
family as there is no school supply program offered by
Brocklehurst Middle school.
SCHOOL FEES
Just a reminder the invoices for school fees have been
issued October 10, 2012. Please watch your childs
backpacks for the invoices.

Our 2013 yearbook will go on sale soon in the main office.

Yearbooks are $45, but if you pre-purchase your book before
February 15, you SAVE $5 and pay only $40.
BAND/CHOIR
1. We are still looking for letters from Parents of
Music/Choir students to help support our need to
replace our school instruments and equipment.
Deadline is Nov. 10 th . Please forward letters to
Michele Huston via email: hoyabyrd@gmail.com
2. Poinsetta’s are currently being sold by Band and
Choir students to raise funds for their Spring Trip.
The deadline for all orders is Wednesday.
November 21 st . Please make cheques payable
to Brock Middle School.
There will be parent volunteers setup at the front
entrance to collect order forms and monies, from
7:45am-8:30am. DO NOT HAND THESE INTO
THE OFFICE. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE
ACCEPTED.
3. Students from Advanced Band classes will be
Marching in the Kamloops Santa Clause Parade
this year! This will be on November 24 th . Meet at
Sacred Heart Cathedral's (255 Nicola St.)
basement no later than 10 am. Student pick-ups
and drop-offs can be made at the Kamloops
Daily News Parking Lot. Please allow AMPLE
time for traffic and parking!
Students and Mr. Schill will then be marshalled to
our specific line up location at 10:30 am. The
parade itself, in its entirety, is scheduled to run
from 11 am to 12:30 pm.....and we have
requested for us to be near the beginning of the
parade.
Please send your child with LAYERS of warm
clothing, mitts, hats, a thermos for warm drinks,
and a lawn chair. We would rather have more
layers for the students to have to take off if they
get too warm, than not enough clothing and they
freeze! They could potentially be standing in the
cold for many hours before the Parade begins, so
let’s ensure our students comfort!
We NEED Parent Volunteers from the Advanced
Band section, to help with this event, including a
vehicle to help transport the instruments and
keep them safe from the weather. Please
contact Michele Huston for information on

possible please.
4. Christmas Concert is scheduled for Dec. 18th @
the Calvary Church. We are still in need of 12
parent volunteers to fill in positions of supervising
students and helping with the bake sale. Bake
sale items will be sold during intermission and
after the performance ONLY. Students are
required to arrive in proper performance attire:
white dress shirt, black pants or skirt that goes
below the knee, black dress shoes. Please

WESTSYDE PRESENTS – LOVE, LOSS, AND
WHAT I WORE.
Performing Arts Westsyde is Proud to present “Love, Loss,
and What I Wore” by Nora and Delia Ephron (Sleepless in
Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail) based on the book by Ilene
Beckerman. One of the first productions of this show in BC,
The Acting Alumni Theatre Company brings back 4 of the
greatest female actors ever to grace the Westsyde stage.
These ladies have gone on to professional and academic
careers in theatre and are now returning home to perform
once again on their first stage. This is a beautiful show that
should not be missed.
This is a heart-warming collection of stories that every
woman, girl, mother, daughter needs to see. Clothes may
make the Man… but they define a Woman.

mothers, prom dresses, mothers, buying bras, mothers,
hating purses and why we only wear black.

CAFETERIA
The cafeteria is open in the morning at 8:00 for sales and
to distribute a FREE breakfast to students in need (we
receive a box of food stuffs on Wednesday and when it is
gone it's gone). Please check out the daily break and
lunch specials. Our menu and price list is on the School's
web page. Some prices have gone up from last year

because the food items cost us more to purchase.
CONGRATUALATIONS TO A SPECIAL
OLYMPIAN
Special Olympians from Kamloops will be attending the
2013 Provincial Summer Games in Langley, BC from July
11 to 14 th . Maya Baker who is member of the swim team
will be attending! Contratulations Maya!
STUDENT JOB OPPORTUNITY
Kamloops This Week is looking for Newspaper Carriers in
all areas of Kamloops and feel that this is a great way to
promote responsibility and of course, earn some money.

FREAKY INTRAMURALS
What a great start to the year! Over 500 students have
participated in Freaky Intramural noon hour activities in
the gym or outside. Activities include basketball, floor
hockey, and dodgeball. In October we will have a Spirit
Week and start volleyball plus more basketball and floor
hockey.
Congratulations to Mr. Dalke's and Mrs. Letham's tag
classes who won the Tag Tug-of-war challenge. Brock
Survivor will be starting soon. Listen to the
announcements for a starting date. We are currently
running 1/2 court basketball in the the gym. We are also
running a Freaky Intramural 1/2 court 3 vs 3 Volleyball
Tournament Monday to Thursday with prizes. Remember
every Friday is Full court floor hockey.

Greetings from Thompson Rivers University!
As the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack 2012-2013
season approaches us, as does a new season of Kid's
Club! Every Wolfpack home Soccer, Basketball and
Volleyball game will offer Kid's Club for children between
the ages of 5-18. With a one-time fee of 10$/child, first
time participants will receive a club T-shirt, VIP lanyard,
free admission to all TRU Wolfpack Home Games and
much more!

TEXTBOOK DEPOSIT
Brock Middle School will be collecting a textbook deposit
to comply with the School District Textbook Deposit
policy below. A $50. per student deposit to a maximum
of $100. per family is now due and payable at the main
office. Brock Middle School accepts cheques, cash or
money order payments.
School District 73 Text Book Deposit (Policy 506.4) A
learning resource deposit shall be collected from all

middle school and secondary school students to be
held against lost or damaged learning resources. The
deposit is a means of teaching the students a sense of
responsibility; and, to control waste through lost or
damaged textbooks.
a) The textbook deposit will be $50. per student
to a maximum of $100. per family. The
textbook deposit will be held by the school
until the student graduates or withdraws from
the school provided that the textbooks are
returned in a suitable condition at the end of
each semester or school year. If the textbooks
are damaged or not returned at the end of the
school year, the school will not refund the
original deposit and may charge an additional
deposit fee of $50. per student to a maximum
of $100. per family at the beginning of the
following semester or school year.
b) In situations where students of a family are
attending different secondary schools, the
family textbook deposit will be paid at the
school of the oldest sibling. It will be the
responsibility of the parent to declare eligibility
for the family deposit.
c) Text book returns will be permitted up to two
weeks beyond the end of the school year.
Textbooks returned beyond the two week time
frame will not be eligible for refund and the
additional textbook deposit shall apply for the
following year.
d) The textbook deposit shall be reviewed
annually by the Superintendent or designate.
e) The school must include a provision to waive
in whole or in part, or to make alternate
arrangements for payments of deposits, for
parents/guardians who cannot afford to pay
some or all of the deposit(s).
f) The school must ensure that appropriate school
must ensure that appropriate procedures are in place
so that proper records are kept of textbooks and
deposits. A separate accounting code will be
established for tracking of textbook deposits.
g) The definition of damaged books will be at the
discretion of the school.
