AMBULATORY ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAM (AEEG)<br />

INSTRUCTIONS:<br />

A brief description of an Ambulatory EEG, there is only a single application of the<br />

electrodes. Once the electrodes are placed, you may go home and resume your<br />

regular activities with some restrictions. (please see below)<br />

1.) REQUIRED TIME: If this is your initial visit, please arrive 15 minutes early.<br />

Allow 1 hour for the set up of the study.<br />

2.) ILLNESS: Please reschedule your study if you are sneezing or coughing<br />

excessively due to an illness, this may adversely affect the technical quality of the<br />

study.<br />

3.) SLEEP: The night before you may have a normal amount of sleep, unless otherwise<br />

directed by your doctor.<br />

4.) MEDICATIONS: Take all medications as prescribed, unless otherwise directed<br />

by your doctor.<br />

5.) MEALS AND BEVERAGES: Please avoid all caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea<br />

and soda) and chocolate . You may drink decaffeinated beverages and all other<br />

drinks. You may have meals.<br />

6.) HAIR: Prior to your study, please ensure that your hair is washed and dried.<br />

As certain hair products may prevent the electrodes from sticking to the scalp.<br />

This includes oils, gels and hairspray. Please do not use braids, hair extensions,<br />

dreadlocks, weaves or toupees as they also prevent the electrodes sticking to the<br />

scalp.<br />

7.) CLOTHING: You are unable to pull anything over your head once the electrodes<br />

are in placed. We advise wearing loose clothing that buttons in the front.<br />

8.) HATS: Please do not wear tight fitting hats/garments as this may adversely<br />

affect the electrode connections. If you desire to place hats/garments over your<br />

head once the electrodes are in placed, you may use a scarf or a loose hat.<br />

9.) DIARY: You be given a diary to document the time and your activities during<br />

any symptom that occurs throughout your recording. (lightheadedness, blacking<br />

out, palpations, chest pains, stomach rising, anxiety, or any other symptom that<br />

you deem is important) Please document all activities from the start of the study<br />

until the completion.<br />

10.) EVENT BUTTON: ONLY when a physical symptom occurs, push the event<br />

button and document your symptoms. (see DIARY)<br />

11.) FOR SAFETY AND TECHNICAL REASONS DO NOT DO THE<br />

FOLLOWING DURING THE RECORDING:<br />

Press, Touch or Tamper with electrodes<br />

Tamper or get the recorder wet<br />

Get the electrodes wet<br />

Bath/Shower<br />

Comb and/or brush hair<br />

Sleep in a water bed with the heater on<br />

Use an electric blanket<br />

Use a microwave<br />

Allow wind to blow in hair<br />

Engage in exercise and/or other strenuous activity<br />

Do not chew in excess (frequent snacking, chew gum, etc..)<br />

12.) REMOVE ELECTRODES: Once the study is completed, return to our office<br />

and allow 30 minutes to remove the electrodes.<br />

(Please note a $250 fee will charged to your account for all missed appointments or not cancelled 3<br />

business days in advance, this will be your responsibility not your insurance company.)<br />
