Minitaly 2010
Our own alternative for Vinitaly
proves that in 2008 we made the
right decision. The Minitaly has
grown into an established event
away from the hectic fair in Verona.
This year we welcomed 45 % more
guests than in 2009.
Especially the possibility to pass by
and have meetings and tastings
during Wednesday before Vinitaly
and the weekend, when Vinitaly
itself is too crowded, attracted
many importers. Also the evenings
during Minitaly were successful,
including pre-dinner tastings and
dinners in company of producers.
We want to thank the staff of
Ristorante Portofino in Ponti sul
Mincio, who allowed us to use their
place as our homebase, and who
prepared even more delicious
dishes than ever before.
Just two out of the reactions we
have received afterwards:
- An importer: ‘Your Minitaly was
again very well organised and the
lunch was perfect‘
- A producer: ‗(...) also this time
Enoteca Nederland surpassed itself
(…) an excellent organisation, all
details well studied, nothing left to
chance; a superb staff (…) guests
always absolutely satisfied. The
possibility not to talk only about
work, but also about ourselves, our
life, our family (…) a different way
to approach each other. Joking,
laughing, enjoying company and
passing a serene evening, far from
the stress of 'sales at all costs’
Minitaly in 2011
From Wednesday April 6 through
Sunday April 10.

News from our Asian Branch
Every other year Vinexpo is traveling to Hong Kong. Vinexpo Asia-Pacific is considered the most im-
portant wine fair in the far east. Enoteca Nederland was representing the Cantina Colli Euganei and
we could welcome people from over 12 different nationalities.
Unfortunately not all of these guests are already active buyers, but Mrs. Lee and Mrs Lucy are strongly
working to change this. With those two ENL ambassadors from Korea and China, we are sure to make
Italian wine more famous with each year.
Wine cellar with…. Restaurant
Since our first occasional visit we have been
impressed by this place and always happy
when we had an excuse to go back. What was
supposed to be a quick lunch became a surprise
event.
Where does the owner of a restaurant show
you his winecellar with more than 100.000
bottles of both Italian and foreign producers,
including very old vintages?
Where? At 'Da Nando' in Mortegliano.
A grape named... SUSSUMANIELLO
Rialto
Cantina Colli Euganei with:
Page 4
Since 2000 at Torre Guaceto, along the Adriatic coast in Apulia, organic vineyards within the WWF Nature Reserve
produce a rare grape that had almost been lost forever.
The Sussumaniello vine produces relatively few grapes of a relatively small size.Contrary to most other autoctonous
grapes from Apulia, it has no bitterness, which makes it a perfect grape for longer maceration and thus
for extracting important tannins and polyphenols. In the past, it was used in blends with varietals such as Negramaro
and Malvasia Nera.
The most interesting explanation of the name is linked to SUMMANUS, a Roman divinity who was responsible for
rain and lightning at night. Summanus was honored every year on June 20 with pagan celebrations, named
Summanaliae (comparable to Bacchanalia in honor of Bacchus). A black ram was sacrificed and a special sort of
bread was eaten. The grape used for the wine to be drunk in this period of the celebrations (Sub Summanaliae)
got the related name Sussumaniello.
Today, at Torre Guaceto it is vinified as a single variety. They call it SUM.

More than a milion visitors for the Cantine Aperte
Organic wines
Torre Raone, in the region of Abruzzo, has applied
the principles of organic wine growing and
vinification right from the moment they started in
1997. All wines that are bottled from January
2010 do/will now also carry the AIAB seal on the
backlabel.
AIAB (Associazione Italiana per l’Agricoltura
Biologica) is one of the major certifying
organisations for organic winegrowers in Italy,
guaranteeing the products as such(www.aiab.it).
Bolgheri, more than wine...
Who knows...
- That Sassicaia is from Bolgheri?
Gracciano della Seta on line
Page 6
- That the vineyards of Castello di Bolgheri, on the northern side of the DOC area, are right next to
those of Ornellaia?
- That Tenuta Argentiera, on the southern side, is just 12 kilometres away?
- That the tiny village of Bolgheri, with only 600 inhabitants, has a newspaper of its own?
Opening 'Bolgheri News', Year 2, No.13 we read about the 'Bolgheri Melody Festival', from July 18 till
July 31. And what a festival it turns out to be! The inaugural concert boasts even the Philharmonic
Orchestra from the Scala, Italy's world famous opera house in Milan. Other events include the highly
renowned jazz trumpetist Enrico Rava, music from Chopin, an airshow from the world class ‗Frecce
Tricolori‘, Oscar winning actor-comedian Benigni and dance acts. See also www.bolgherimelody.com
Some thirty Bolgheri producers will participate, organizing excursions in the area and guided tours in
the cellars.
- From now on, Gracciano della Seta can also be found on line: www.graccianodellaseta.com
- This historic estate keeps in its cellars rare bottles going
back till 1864.
- Today, more recent vintages can also be found in
surprising quantities in good restaurants in Brasil.
