Students in Focus
+ Teacher
Archie
Archie was born in Zimbabwe and lived there for the first 4 years of
his life. This makes him extremely multi-cultural and an asset to the
Academy. After much deliberation we found out his favourite
teacher is Mr Stritch and this is reflective of his favourite subject,
English. However he revealed a soft spot for maths and the great
teacher, Mr Katsholo. Outside of school Archie is a huge music fan
and often finds new talent on the alternative hip hop scene.
Interestingly, in later life Archie hopes to learn how to become a
puppet master.
Miss Singo
Miss Singo is a science teacher who loves problem solving
and understanding how things work. From a young age she
wanted to either be a doctor or a mentor to the future
generations. One of her goals in the upcoming years is to
have a family and to be the best science teacher ever.
Outside of school Miss Singo leads a choir and helps host
and plan events such as poetry evenings. Furthermore she
plays basketball and tennis in her free time. Before working
at the Academy Miss Singo worked for Reading University
and at a show shop (which she didn’t enjoy)!
KONY 2012
Joseph Kony has been the leader of the L.R.A for over 30 years he has committed so many crimes that
he is the top man to be stopped; some of the crimes are murder, rape, extortion etc. As a child Kony
was very helpful but when it came down to fights he always resorted violence. In his early life he
started to join rebel groups but stuck to the worst of them all a guerrilla group called the L.R.A the
Lord’s resistance army. Over the years Kony has made children into slaves, prostitutes and soldiers
he targets children because he has said himself “they are easy to manipulate”. He has done this to
Uganda for many years and now because the US stepped in he has fled to the republic of Congo and
taken a few soldiers with him. Even though he has left Uganda there are many war lords still out
there wreaking havoc in Uganda and many soldiers will not put down the guns and go back to their
normal life as they have been killing children and adults for most of their life. He turns them into
child soldiers and makes them kill their own parents and deform children with a panga (Machete).
There are still many children affected by the actions of Kony. Up until today, the Ugandan
government have been trying to stop Kony, with the help of the US army. There are many charities
like invisible children and TRI working on helping. They are still trying to sort this out but many
people think this is a money making scheme. On the other hand people are trying to help stop him
and fund the charities. Although we live in the 21 st century and in a growing diverse international
community, it is sad that there are organizations such as the L.R.A who suppress people’s freedom of
movement and the right to live in a humanitarian world.
