UNION offer a wide range of padlocks <strong>co</strong>vering all levels of security, suitable for both <strong>co</strong>mmercial and domestic use.<br />
UNION padlocks can be supplied individually keyed or suited with other UNION products such as cylinders and<br />
cabinet locks.<br />
Features and Functions<br />
The following diagram gives an overview of the main features and functions of a UNION padlock. For a full<br />
explanation of terminology, please refer to the glossary on page 0.10 in the introduction at the front of the catalogue.<br />
Key Control Systems<br />
UNION padlocks are all unlocked using a key. Some can be snaplocked without the<br />
need for a key, whilst others will require the key for locking as well as unlocking.<br />
UNION padlocks can be supplied individually keyed, keyed alike, keyed to pass or<br />
masterkeyed. See individual product pages for details.<br />
Finishes<br />
Shackle<br />
The U shaped metal bar used to<br />
attach the lock to the hasp or chain.<br />
There are three styles of shackle as<br />
follows:<br />
Standard length<br />
Extended shackle<br />
offering greater clearance from the<br />
body, which may be required in certain<br />
applications<br />
Closed shackle<br />
where the body of the padlock is<br />
extended to <strong>co</strong>ver the shackle offering<br />
greater protection from shackle attack<br />
UNION standard padlocks are available in brass body finish. UNION High Security<br />
padlocks are available in mirror chrome finish. See individual product pages for details.<br />

Cylinder Plug<br />
UNION padlocks are available with either<br />
4-pin, 5-pin, 6-pin, KESO or DTEC cylinder.<br />

Ball Locking<br />
UNION High Security padlocks<br />
feature a ball locking mechanism,<br />
which is amongst the most secure<br />
locking mechanisms available.<br />
Hardened steel ball bearings are<br />
pushed outwards to engage with<br />
round indents on the shackle. This<br />
type of mechanism offers extreme<br />
resistance to torsion and pull<br />
attack.<br />
