Charles Cook <strong>Bronson</strong>’s <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Reserve</strong>, 1633-1866<br />

in 10 Volumes<br />

Table <strong>of</strong> Contents<br />

Charles Cook <strong>Bronson</strong> (1804-1886) authored ten volumes on <strong>the</strong> history <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Western</strong> <strong>Reserve</strong>. The original volumes, along with accompanying material such as oral<br />

presentations by <strong>Bronson</strong> <strong>and</strong> obituaries, were transcribed by Tobi Battista <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong><br />

Historical Society using an electric typewriter between July <strong>of</strong> 1995 <strong>and</strong> January <strong>of</strong> 1997.<br />

Battista <strong>the</strong>n organized <strong>the</strong> transcriptions into five three-ring binders <strong>and</strong> created a table <strong>of</strong><br />

contents for each volume.<br />

In 2005/2006, Fred Wybenga, also <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Historical Society, re-entered <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />

<strong>the</strong> table <strong>of</strong> contents for each volume using a word processing program (Word) to allow for<br />

easier data search <strong>and</strong> retrieval. The electronic version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se new tables <strong>of</strong> contents was<br />

turned over to <strong>the</strong> Special Collections Division <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Akron-Summit County Public Library for<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir use <strong>and</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r distribution. The ten individual tables <strong>of</strong> contents have been combined into<br />

one table <strong>and</strong> sorted alphabetically by name/topic to create <strong>the</strong> table that appears below. The<br />

numbers preceding <strong>the</strong> colon refer to <strong>the</strong> volume number, while <strong>the</strong> number(s) after <strong>the</strong><br />

colon refer to <strong>the</strong> page number(s).<br />

Hard copies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> transcribed volumes to which this table refers are available at <strong>the</strong> following<br />

locations:<br />

• Akron-Summit County Public Library, Main Library, Special Collections Division<br />

(Rstck call # 977.136 C475)<br />

• Akron-Summit County Public Library, <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Branch Library (within <strong>the</strong> Frank E.<br />

Lawrence <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Collection)<br />

• <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Historical Society <strong>of</strong>fice in <strong>the</strong> Old Town Hall, <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Circle, Ohio<br />

It is strongly recommended that researchers access <strong>the</strong> information at <strong>the</strong> library locations ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

than at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Tallmadge</strong> Historical Society, which is not staffed to accommodate researchers.<br />
