Issue 1, April 14, 2005 SMARTRing CNM Service Description
2. SMARTRing CNM Service Description
2.1 Service Description
BellSouth’s Customer Network Management (CNM) for SMARTRing service is an optional feature
available with all SMARTRing systems that provide customers with “true” network management
capabilities. The service is available with two options:
“Surveillance Only” which includes real-time network alarm monitoring and limited
Performance Monitoring (PM) data collection.
“Surveillance with Reconfiguration” which additionally enables customers to reconfigure
circuit connections in the ring multiplexers
When used in conjunction with BellSouth’s Flexserv service these features can be enabled from the circuits
“A” location to the “Z” location, providing visibility and control of the entire transmission path.
2.2 Service Availability
Customer Network Management (CNM) for SMARTRing is available for customers with interstate rings
from the FCC tariff #1 for Special Access (SPA) services only. SMARTRings purchased from other
applicable tariffs can currently implement CNM via a “special assembly” request. CNM will be provided
in IntraLata jurisdictions as SMARTRing tariffs are filed.
3. Service Restrictions
3.1 Restrictions
Customer Network Management (CNM):
Available on SMARTRing Service OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, OC-48+, OC-192 and OC-192+
capacities
Within each STS-1 group, all activated interfaces must be optioned the same, either all
Surveillance only or all Surveillance with Reconfiguration.
A SMARTRing Service Rearrangement charge does not applywhen FlexServ (a.k.a.
Customer Reconfiguration) is added to an existing SMARTRing Service installed prior to
June 3, 1994 and the entire ring in being upgraded to a new higher level SMARTRing
Service at the same time.
Grooming existing DS3s to a CNM reconfigurable SMARTRing will require one “D” and two
“N” orders. Any subsequent reconfiguring of the DS3s will require changing of circuit IDs
because one circuit will transform to two or more circuits.
Customer Reconfiguration is not available on SMARTRing service channel interfaces that
transport Switched Access Service.
The Customer Surveillance option does not have the capacity to reconfigure circuits.
Surveillance with Reconfirguration must be ordered with a sufficient quantity of spare
channel interfaces at every Customer Node and Central Office Node where reconfiguration
capability is desired.
All node on the SMARTRing must be included for the ring to have the Customer Surveillance
feature.
Whether the customer has normal SMARTRing Service or SMARTRing Service with CNM,
SMARTRing Channel Interfaces must be orderedfrom the appropriate SMARTRing FCC
or GSST tariff.
Reconfiguration is not a stand-alone option you must have Surveillance with Reconfiguration.
Issue 1, April 14, 2005 CNM Application Process
8. CNM Application Process
8.1 Establishing Access to the CNM Application Platform
For initial service establishment of access to the CNM for SMARTRing software application, the account
team will complete the RF-1747CUSTOMER form.
Use the service order number of a circuit that is part of the Customer Reconfiguration arrangement in the
field where this information is requested ( or a BAN is applicable). This form should be faxed to the
CNMS (Attention: Olyn Sexton) @ (803) 401–2924. CNMS will verify the accuracy and forward to
RASM for processing, RASM will send the user ID for the card to CNMS so that user ID can be built
into the web-access system.
When the user receives the SecureID card they will receive the user-ID and initial P.I.N. for secure access
to the BellSouth network. The customer is provided the INC login with their SecureID or during training.
If a customer has an existing Secure ID card (issued by BellSouth for access to another service), the
marketing rep still needs to fill out the RF-1747CUSTOMER for and process as described above.
Customer Reconfiguration may be ordered using the Ordering and Billing Forum’s Access Service
Request (ASR). To order BellSouth Customer Reconfiguration service, the customer should send the ASR
to the InterExchange Carrier Service Center (ICSC). If the ring and CNMS are being ordered from GSST
as Resale then the package will go to the CSRG.
Note: SMARTRing CNM, FlexServ, Network Visibility Service (NVS) and CNM (retail branding
for NVS) use the same software application platform. Customers that have existing access to
any of these applications have a user profile in the database and, thus, already have access
to the SMARTRing CNM application GUI. Simply note existing customer access on the
CNM SI in the “remarks/comments” section.
Issue 1, April 14, 2005 USOC- Universal Service Order Codes
9. USOC- Universal Service Order Codes
9.1 USOCS for SMARTRing CNM
USOCs are the primary source driving information for service provisioning and billing of all services and
equipment shown on a service order or customer record. When used on a service order, they provide proper
billing for recurring and non-recurring charges. USOCs are a combination of three or five alphanumeric
characters used on service orders and equipment records to identify items of service and equipment in
BellSouth.
USOCS below are applicable when a CNM option is requested on a ring:
CNM Type USOC Description
Surveillance SHNSN --
-- SHNS4 Per Node, OC48 and OC48+
-- SHNS9 Per Node, OC192+
Reconfiguration SHNRC Per SMARTRing Customer or
Central Office Channel Interface
USOCS below are applicable when a CNM option is added to an existing ring:
CNM Type USOC Description
Surveillance SHNRR Per Node, Per SMARTRing Service
Reconfiguration SHNR1 Per STS-1 Group, Per Node
Interface
The above USOCS are used to bill the implementation of CNM Surveillance or Reconfiguration or both.
Once SMARTRing CNM is established, then the USOCSs in the box at the top of this page will be used
for the MRC billing of CNM Surveillance and Reconfiguration.
