rhetoric. It is all about making an impression on the receiver -
to catch, to hold, to charm and get his attention, seduce him
and tempt his curiosity. Design has not only the ambition to
get the exaggerated attention for the moment but also to stay.
How it is remembered will not be judged until the audience,

they find attractive. Quality is not an objective property, and
beautiful design works for the eternity. For me, design is not
a temporary fashion and what the design attracts, depends on
both our large contemporary society and our personal being.

6000 sqm factory designed in 1950, with a long
experience of making lamps. We do powder coating,
welding, assembling, textile shade production,
photography, design & sales.
All lamps are carefully handmade by professional
craftsmen here in Vittsjö, Sweden.

10 WAYS TO LIGHT
1. PLEASURE
The first rule of illumination is to make it pleasant for your eyes.
Calming and soft light without dazzling.
2. MIX OF LAMPS
A living room or kitchen should suit the party, home work,
romantic dinner or the home office. Therefore we need a mix.
A mix of both functional reading light and ambient lighting.
3. ONE ROOM AT A TIME
Bring lots of lamps in a room and lighten them one at a time and
see what happens. If you experience a room as dark you will
receive the best result if you place a big floor lamp in the darkest
corner.
4. DYNAMICS
Light is not only about light but also about shadows.
The eye loves to catch variations so it is better to use
several minor light sources than only just one large light source.
5. REFLECTION
A white glossy surface in a room reflects 90% of the light whereas
a black one only reflects 10%. The choice and position of the
lamps is all about the surrounding.
6. ROBUST & FRIENDLY
Just as important as the functionality is the emotional quality, the
feeling of robustness and friendliness. To be able to have the lamp
close to you, giving you a feeling of safety. Look for good
materials and friendly shapes.
7. ENLIGHTEN THE IMPORTANT
Have a thought about the functionality in the lamp you are about
to buy. Maybe the huge cool lamp is great to look at but the
important thing in a lamp is to enlighten what is important
around you without occupying a whole room itself.
8. GREEN LAMPS
Buy a lamp that is made of good materials so you can keep it for
a life time. Choose a producer that uses suppliers within a small
distance to minimize the transport. Avoid crome details which
are bad for the environment.
9. DIMMER
You can never have to many dimmers. Adjusting the light quickly
and easily is the best way to harmonize.
10. LIGHT BULB
Pick your lamp and try different light sources and you will find
the one that suits you the best. It is important to catch the warm
feeling in the light both as you sense it and see it, especially in the
reading lamp next to your bed and closest to your face.
My best and easiest advice is to do as Lisa and I.
We have a candle light on the breakfast table every single day.

In 1950 the two brothers Uno & Östen
Kristiansson founded the Swedish lighting brand
Luxus in Vittsjö and turned it into a common
name in the Swedish household.
Due to the modern design of CEO and new
owner Niclas Hoflin and his Ruben Lighting,
Luxus is unique in the manufacturing of quality
lighting.
The Luxus brand will live on and we are proud
to present the most beautiful pieces with original
design in the 1950´s.

We believe in sustainability, products that
last for a very long time and not forgotten.
Upon taking over Luxus we discovered a
treasure chest of beautiful pieces from the
60´s and 70´s in their original packaging.
Most of them are never used. Some of them
are slightly used as they have been props for
many photo shoots and movies, and some of
them have small defects that are barely visual.

WATCH OUT FOR THE MONSTERS!
AT SEVEN YEARS OF AGE, I ACCIDENTALLY BEGAN MY CAREER IN THE
LIGHTING INDUSTRY. I WANDERED AROUND IN OUR DARK AND DREARY
BASEMENT, ARMED WITH A WILD IMAGINATION & MY MUMS LIGHTER.
As a kid, I was fond of everything that
burned - matches and lighters were my fa-
vourite toys! Watching a heap of toilet paper
burn in the loo would be the highlight of my
day. I would hide in the cellar, undetected to
the cleaning ladies, waiting for them to leave
and turn out the lights. This would trans-
form a perfectly normal storage and cleaning
facility into my worst nightmare. Soon, the
long and shaggy arms would catch me and
swallow me bit by bit. My saviour was in my
hand - the lighter. With the flick of a switch,
the flimmering light instantly vaporized the
demons and monsters that were trying to
abduct me and take me to a far away place.
Little was I to know that these childhood fanta-
sies would lead me to a career in Illumination.
At the age of 30, I was privileged to meet
the Danish designer Ole Palsby. He had
the answer to all of my questions of what’s
important in life - Love, relationships, de-
sign, products, architecture, art. Everything
is connected. People, objects and ideas - they
all have to work as a unit. If you wish to pursue
a life as a designer, you have a responsibility.
You have a responsibility to design things
that actually work, give people a value for
their money as well as improving their life.
It took ten years working alongside my
mentor, best friend and everything , Ole,
to realize exactly what I wanted to do to
”change peoples lives”. I wanted to enligh-
ten what is important to people. I realized
that my lamps would never be more im-
portant than the people themselves. My
lamp is basically just a lamp - but if it gives
you the light that you need for your moment
and if the design gives you a good feeling,
then a lamp is everything. When that hap-
pens, I have succeeded as a designer. When
I switch off my lamp for the night, I will fall
happily asleep.
