Methodist Monthly
The early Methodist Movement was successful
mainly because John Wesley developed a
means where each member was held lovingly
accountable in following the General Rule for
the United Societies. The General Rule,
which is still the standard by which Methodists
are to live their lives, is: “Do No Harm, Do
Good, Attend to the Ordinances of God.”
Wesley developed what became known as the
class meeting, where the early Methodists
would gather each week to discuss how they
were doing in living out “The Three Simple
Rules.”
For the Lenten Season, we are harkening back
to our Methodist roots as we are introducing
Covenant Discipleship to our congregation.
What encourage persons to join a covenant
group, where the members of the group develop
a covenant by which they live for the
season of Lent. Each week, the group will
gather to discuss how they did in living out their
mutually agreed upon covenant holding each
other “lovingly accountable” and encouraging
each other in growing in the spiritual disciplines.
The covenant should have four basic components
which will be tailored by the group to
meet the group member’s needs. These components
are: 1) Individual Spiritual Disciplines,
2) Corporate Spiritual Disciplines, 3) Doing No
Harm, 4) Intentionally Doing Good. Each week,
the group members will talk about how they did

in living these disciplines out. We will hold an
orientation session to discuss Covenant Discipleship
during the Sunday school hour on
Sunday, February 3, in the church fellowship
hall. There, you can find out more about this
new ministry and also have an opportunity to
sign up for one of the groups.

Boy Scout Sunday, February 10.
During our morning worship service
we will recognize the two scouting organizations
that are sponsored by our
church, Troop 42 and Pack 42.
Scouts will lead us in the presentation
of the colors as well as the pledge of
allegiance.
KFC is out of food! If you would like
to help, please bring in individually
wrapped snacks. We have 45 children
who attend this special outreach
program.

Back on Track” group in the church
parking lot on Sunday afternoons at
4pm, for a one minute devotional/two
mile walk. Anyone is welcome.

journey something special? Covenant
groups are a great way to help
you with your spiritual disciplines and
help you grow closer to God. You
can find out more and have a chance
to sign up at the orientation meeting
held during the Sunday School hour
at 9:45 on Sunday, February 3rd.
Sunday, February 3, we join
with thousands of congregations
across America in the
Souper Bowl of Caring. Our
youth will be making soup to
serve after the morning worship
service. Please stay and enjoy a
bowl. Churches like ours from coast
to coast are taking up donations to
help local charitable organizations.
We are asking for a generous
donation as all proceeds will be given
to the Community Benevolent Fund.
Attention Ladies! The Extraordinary
Women’s "Enduring Love" Tour is coming
to the Pensacola Civic Center,
April 19-20. This is sure to be a funfilled
weekend for all those who attend.
Guest speakers are Pam Tebow,
Karen Kingsbury, Margaret Feinberg,
and Kasey Van Norman. Natalie Grant,
five-time GMA Female Vocalist of the
Year, will be in concert Friday night,
and noted comedian, Tim Hawkins, will
also entertain. The dynamic praise and
worship will be led by Michael O'Brien.
Cost is $69, if registered before February

Mardi Gras Celebration and Burning of
the Palm Branches, Wednesday, February
6. This is a special Wednesday night
fellowship, as we will have a traditional
Mardi Gras Pancake Meal (with King Cake
as well!) After the dinner, and the throwing
of beads, moon pies, and other fun
traditions of the day, we will get a little
more somber and burn the branches from
last year’s Palm Sunday celebration, to
prepare for the Ash Wednesday Service
the following week, February 13.
Escambia County Habitat for Humanity
is pleased to partner with the Alabama
Cooperative Extension Service, and our
church, to offer a Good Credit/Bad Credit
workshop that will help participants understand
and use credit responsibly. The
workshop will be led by Mr. Rick Zapata, a
personal finance instructor with the Alabama
Extension Service.
Topics to be addressed include: How a
credit score is determined, how to improve
your credit score, how to stop harassing
phone calls from creditors, and the benefits
of having a good credit score. A question
and answer period will also be included.
The Workshop will be held on
Thursday, February 28, from 6-8pm, in
our fellowship hall. Admission is free. For

Want to get some exercise and raise
money for a good cause? Then join your
fellow church members who are participating
in the Gulf Breeze United Methodist
Church’s ‘Run for the World” on Saturday,
February 23, at 8am. You don’t
have to be a runner to participate, as walkers
are welcome too. The cost is $17 per
person for preregistration by February
21. For more information or to register,

may take participants to the race if we
have enough persons to justify the expense.
