4 Methodology<br />
The objective of the evaluation was <strong>to</strong> determine as far as reasonably<br />
possible the presence/absence, location, nature, extent, date, quality,<br />
condition and significance of any surviving archaeological deposits<br />
within the development area.<br />
Crops are still farmed in the eastern part of the development area.<br />
Trenches 7, 13, 14 and 30 were moved or amended <strong>to</strong> damage the<br />
crops as little as possible. The original Trench 30 was divided in<strong>to</strong> two<br />
and a new Trench (48) located. Other crops were left un<strong>to</strong>uched with<br />
seven proposed trenches <strong>to</strong> the south of Trenches 7-19 not evaluated<br />
at this stage (Trenches 12, 18, 24-28). Further evaluation trenches <strong>to</strong><br />
the south of Princess Road are <strong>to</strong> be excavated in 2007.<br />
Twenty-nine trenches were machine excavated under constant<br />
archaeological supervision with a tracked 360°-type excava<strong>to</strong>r using a<br />
