The Intimate Courtyard Theatre
The Courtyard Theatre is set in the landscaped gardens of
Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre Newtownabbey.
The intimate 180 seat theatre has been
enjoyed by many within the community
for almost 20 years, offering a wide range
of arts and entertainment throughout the
year including drama, dance, comedy,
musicals and family shows.
A platform for local community and
youth groups to get involved in the
arts, The Courtyard Theatre is also
home to the Newtownabbey Drama
Festival, bringing the best of amateur
dramatics on stage for local audiences
to enjoy.

The Dove Drama Group once again bring
you lots of music and laughter when they
present their annual pantomime Sleeping
Beauty by Darren Edwards.
In true panto tradition, this show features
lots of swashbuckling adventure along with
fairytale romance that will keep the whole

A unique music festival for young people
aged between 5 and 25 years who compete
in singing and instrumental classes throughout
the week. The festival finale is a gala night
concert, featuring the young performers who
took part and the winners of the festival’s
awards are announced.

young musicians.
Craig Lutton, (Percussion) from Ballymena and
Northern Ireland Musican of the Year 2010.
Sam Brodison (Trumpet) from Carrick who
plays for Magheramorne and Ballyduff Silver
Bands.
Cory Shen (Piano) born in Shenzhen Northern
China, living in NI and 1st Prize winner of the
International Piano competition for Beethoven
performances in Seoul, South Korea 2009.

O’Sullivan.

featured artist at major folk and storytelling

Kathleen O’Sullivan has been a vocalist
with high profile traditional bands and has
appeared at many high prestige venues and
festivals in USA, Europe, Ireland and the UK
including Glastonbury.
Through a bit of a chat and a tune Billy and
Kathleen will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in
truly traditional fashion.

Courtyard Theatre audiences just can’t get
enough of the sizzling slide guitar playing
and soulful vocals of the Ronnie Greer Blues
Band so this spring the powerhouse band are
back for another electrifying blues and roots
concert.
With a repertoire featuring everything from
classic gutbucket Jimmie Reed right up to
Robben Ford and Steely Dan, the Ronnie
Greer Blues Band is at the peak of its powers.
The band also features some of the country’s
leading musicians including guitarist/singer
Anthony Toner, keyboard wizard John
McCullough, Alan Hunter on bass and Colm
Fitzpatrick on drums.

A week of wonderful 3 act plays performed
by amateur dramatic groups around Northern
Ireland and beyond.
This year’s adjudicator is Miss Julie O’Hare
GODA.
The Newtownabbey Drama Festival was
started back in 1982 as the brainchild of
members of the Abbey Actors Company.
Each year the festival showcases the best in
amateur dramatics for local audiences.

MUSIC
Ballyduff Silver Band began life as a flute
band in 1894. They competed in all the usual
band competitions with some success until
1951 when the decision was taken to change
to brass, as this was a cheaper option.
The band has continued to contest successfully,
especially in the entertainment competitions
where they have held the title of Brass in
Concert Champions on no fewer than six
occasions.

Directions
Simply take the M2 out of Belfast towards Antrim,
exitting at Sandyknowes roundabout, take the A8 towards
Larne. Drive through 1 roundabout and turn right at the 2nd
roundabout. You will see the Courtyard Theatre on the left hand
side at Ballyearl Arts & Leisure Centre. For the Theatre at The Mill take
the next right onto Carnmoney Road North and then left into Mossley
Mill, Newtownabbey Borough Council Headquarters. The Theatre at The
Mill is in the Civic Square behind Mossley Mill.
