TRAYSER HARMONIUM
Trayser Harmonium
Dimensions are W: 107cm
D: 49cm
H: 101cm when on its wheels,
88cm when not on wheels
Specification: I manual.
LH has Cor Anglais stop + Forte or Sourdine or
Expression all of which alter the sound only a little!
RH has Flute (clean sound), or Voix celeste (not clean,
sounds a bit like an accordion = 2 sets of reeds
tuned deliberately slightly differently), or Tremblant
which is the flute sound with a sort of mechanical
tremolo effect. There is also a forte stop which slightly
affects the aforementioned 3 stops! The 3 stops can't
be combined.
Range: ′C to C′′′′ (2 8ves below middle C- 3 8ves above)
Transportation: it has wheels (made for it by Alistair
Edmonson). I usually put a blanket over it and rope it
all to the wheels so that it can be lifted without
wheels falling off. It has 2 pillars at the front which are
weak and shouldn't be used to secure it in a van. I
usually wedge it with other equipment or use ropes or
elasticated straps across the back of the instrument.
Two sturdy people can lift it and it has handles on the
sides, though I find it easier to lift it from the base. A
small van will do. Haven't yet tried an estate car!
It only takes 5-10 mins to take from house to van and
load.
To get the best from it I suggest the player has a go
on it beforehand whether at my house or in situ. It
requires its own techniques, such as playing any low
LH notes early as they are slow to speak!
