What happens when colleagues
support opposing
football teams? A friendly
wager is made, of course.
That is what happened when the New Orleans Saints #1 fan
(Mr. Young) and a life-long Pittsburg Steelers fan (Mrs.
Ragas) watched their teams go head-to-head. Mrs. Ragas was
gracious in defeat when she wore Saints regalia from head to
toe. Mr. Young was magnanimous in victory and did not gloat
too much.

Student Government Association
The first Martin Behrman Charter School Student Council was inducted during
the Honors Day convocation in the auditorium. The Student Government of
Behrman Charter School is divided into 3 branches: the Administrative Branch
– Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Goins, and Mr. Young; the Faculty Branch – Mrs. Washington,
Mrs. Perry, Ms. Bensrieti, Mr. Razem and Ms. Williams; and the
Student Branch. The Student Branch consists of representatives from the upper
grades. They are: 6 th Grade – Joy Hays (secretary) in Mr. Paulin’s class;
Mya Marshall, Mya Forbes, Ahnisha Washington and Angel Hays (Sergeantat-arms)

The Art of Paper Folding
If anyone has ever heard Mr. Hardy Davis play
the piano, they know that he has extraordinary
finger dexterity. He can really tickle the ivories.
But he is also very nimble-fingered at paper
folding. He has used the Behrman Charter
School library to find books on origami, the art
of Japanese paper folding. He is teaching his
students this ancient art form and they have
produced some beautiful intricate pieces. Behrman
is fortunate to have such a multi-talented
teacher on our faculty.

Climbing the Ladder to Success
The entire student body assembled in the auditorium to recognize the academic success of the honor roll students.
Mrs. Harrison coordinated a program that included musical selections from our choir under the direction of Ms.
Taylor and the induction of the first BCS Student Council. The honor roll certificates were presented by the grade
level teachers. Closing remarks were given by Mrs. Carter.

LEAPing into
Soccer
Coach Field and Coach Knapp have the 4 th graders
LEAPing into soccer. Every Thursday and Friday,
from 2:15 until 3:00, they play a soccer match. There
are four teams: Mrs. Videau’s Jaguars, Ms.
George’s Saints, Mrs. Alexis’ Yellow Jackets and
the All Stars, which is composed of 4 th grade members
of the Behrman Soccer team. The 4 th graders are
getting ready physically and mentally for the LEAP.
Visual Arts Enrichment
Behrman Charter School is fortunate to have the Arts For Learning Residency Program from
Young Audiences. Mr. Todd Shaffer is our guest artist who does visual arts enrichment
for our 3 rd graders. Ms. Ruffin’s class devised their own board games and did all of the art
work for the game board and pieces.
Dancing in the Library
The Young Audiences Board of Directors held their
quarterly meeting in the library at Martin Behrman Charter
School. At the end of the meeting they were entertained
by the Tigers, dancers from the first grade. The
dancers were led by 4 th grader Demi Bennett. They
were introduced by their Young Audiences teacher, Mr.
Barry Franklin.
A Multitude of Males
Mrs. Brunet has had only boys in her
class for several years and this year is no
different. In her class are six boisterous
bouncing boys. Here they are dressed for
the Boo at Behrman with Mrs. Brunet, Ms.
Anderson and Ms. Evans.
