China's benchmark <strong>index</strong> slipped on nagging fears<br />

<strong>the</strong> mainland's economic growth is slowing.<br />

The Shanghai Composite fell 0.5 percent lower <strong>at</strong><br />

2,318.1 in early trade.<br />

The Hang Seng Index [.HSI 18657.56 -450.25 (-<br />

2.36%)] lost 1.9 percent to 18,741.8 points.<br />

The China Enterprises Index [.HSCE10067.30 -<br />

328.07(-3.16%)] of top Chinese companies listed in<br />

Hong Kong dropped 2.2 percent <strong>at</strong> 10,262.8 points.<br />

dropped 1.5 percent to 8,535.62. The broader<br />

Topix shed 1.0 percent to 738.00.<br />
