People of Color Conference (ABOVE)<br />

Dean of Students Pooh Gephart and juniors, Morgan Dawkins,<br />

Kayla Cohen, Delia Sudler and Diane Ku volunteered for Habitat<br />

for Humanity in New Orleans, LA in December 2008 when they<br />

attended the National Association of Independent <strong>School</strong>s People<br />

of Color Conference. The first day of the conference was spent laying<br />

sod in the rain with Habitat in the Musicians Village of the 9th<br />

Ward, followed by two full days of workshops and presentations.<br />

Holiday Community Service (RIGHT)<br />

Getting ready to send more than 70 “Santa Sacks” to children<br />

served by the Consortium of West Philadelphia are front row<br />

– third graders, Zoe Stevens, Sophie Krause and Haley Tavares;<br />

and back row – sophomores Elizabeth Auritt and Traianne Peek.<br />

In December 2008, students and faculty purchased, collected and<br />

wrapped new gifts and organized them into customized sacks, each<br />

for an individual child designated by the Consortium. The project<br />

was organized by Hattie Holmes, former head of housekeeping at<br />

<strong>Baldwin</strong>.<br />

Book Fair<br />

FAR LEFT<br />

“Bear-E Yourself in a Book” was the theme<br />

of this year’s annual Book Fair held during<br />

the first week of December 2008 at Children’s<br />

Book World in Haverford. The Fair included<br />

such special events as a poster contest, a PreK<br />

slumber party, Muffins with Mom, Pretzels<br />

with Pop and cookies and hot chocolate for the<br />

Middle <strong>School</strong>. Dressed for the PreK slumber<br />

party are Co-chairs Shinju Lee, Annmarie<br />

Cappalonga Bunn ’85 and Kim Beauvais.<br />
