MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS
Because these inscriptions were covered by seats and flooring they were not
included in the original transcription which was published on microfiche in 1982
by D & D FHS
Note: These inscriptions were found in the back of the burial register A56/1/A3.
There is no indication of the writer or year.
A copy of the gravestones = inscriptions on the flags in Tickhill church now
partially or wholly covered by the new seats and flooring.
1) Here lieth the body of Grace, the wife of Francis Staveley of Tickhill who
died the 13th may 1772 aged 65 years.
2) Also Francis Staveley, their son. He died 27th September 1772 aged 47
years.

3) In memory of John Staveley who died January 25th 1797 age 34 years.

6) In memory of Lieu’t William Skelton ‘2nd West Yorks Reg’t of militia’ died
24 May 1818, age 43 years.

7) Here lieth the body of Mary the wife of John (space) who departed this
life 11th day of July Anno Dom’ 1682

8) Sacred to the memory of Thomas Robinson, Gentleman, who died January 16th
1823 aged 72.
9) Also Sarah, wife of the above Thomas Robinson who departed this life April
23rd 1831 aged 81.

10) The Rev. John Elam. He was the vicar of this parish (space) years, died
April 29th 1774, age 70 years. Elizabeth his wife, died March 12th 1813
age 90

11) Sacred to the memory of I.S. Fisher whose remains were interred March 11th
1814.

day of January aged 31 years.
13) Also of Elizabeth his wife who died May 11th 1818 age 68 years.

14) Here lieth the body of Mary, the wife of Mr Thomas Sissons, mercer, who
departed this life the 28th day of November 1786, in the 74 year of her
age.

15) Also lieth the body of Mr Thomas Sissons, mercer, who departed this life
the 20th day of November 1788 aged 70 years.

23) Also Sarah Hackett, wife of the above Richard Hackett, departed this life
May 16th 1823 aged 78 years.
24) Here lieth interred the body of Elizabeth, the wife of William Booker who

this life October 25th 1775 aged 57 years.

28) Richard Stones. Died January 23 rd 1766 aged 50.

29) Here lieth interred the body of George Booker. He died January 21st 1765
aged 80 years.
Here lieth the body of Mary, the wife of George Booker who departed this
life March the 10th 1766 aged 78 years.

Gill of Tickhill Gentleman who died in the eighth year of her age upon the

31) Here lieth the remains of Wilfred Fox surgeon who departed this life
December 8th 1757 aged 30 years. Also of Elizabeth his wife, daughter of

32) Here lieth the remains of Thomas Fox Gentleman who departed this life 11th
February 1789 at 30.

40) Here lieth the bodys of Ruth and Hannah the daughters of Richard and Mary
Cornford of Tickhill. Ruth departed this life 12 June AD aged 4 years & 9
