I’m a forester. My father was
a forester. My uncle was a
professor of forestry.
I grew up learning about
nature, forests and the need
for management. With proper
management, our forests can
meet a variety of needs and
provide wood products along
with clean air, clean water,
wildlife habitat and recreation.
As our society becomes
more urbanized, people lose
the connection between the
products they use every day
and where they come from.
VIEWS ON EARTH can help
rebuild that connection through
high quality photography and
top- flight editorial content. Some
believe that the best way to save
forests is to stop using wood
and paper products. VIEWS ON
EARTH can visibly show that the
reason we have as much forest
as we do is because the forest
has economic value to the people
who own them. Thankfully most
of our forestland, especially in
the South, is privately owned.
We need a publication like
VIEWS ON EARTH.

Robert W. Slocum Jr.
Bob has served as the executive
vice president of the North
Carolina Forestry Association
since 1988. A graduate of North
Carolina State University with
a Forest Management Degree,
he has more than 30 years of
experience in the forestry industry
both at the local and national
level. He currently serves on
several environmental boards,
including the N.C. Agriculture
and Forestry Awareness Study
Commission, the N.C. State
University Forestry Foundation,
the Cradle of Forestry in America
Interpretative Association,
the National Forest Industry
Wetlands Task Force, and is a
charter member of the National
Council on Private Forests.
