1. Executive Summary<br />
The second issue <strong>of</strong> WSAA Product Appraisal Report PA 06/09 Issue 2 extends the range <strong>of</strong> <strong>Karon</strong><br />
resilient seated gate valves (RSV) to include sizes from DN 375 to DN 600.<br />
PA 06/09 Issue 2 consolidates the range <strong>of</strong> RSV manufactured by Shanghai <strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong> Machinery<br />
Co. Ltd, which was previously apprised by the WSAA Network in PA 06/09 Issue 1, to include RSV’s in<br />
size range DN 80 to DN 600.<br />
The additional valve sizes being introduced (i.e. DN375 to 600) are <strong>of</strong> the same type and design, as<br />
the current appraised size range, which appears in WSAA appraisal PA 06/09 Issue 1. The additional<br />
sizes have been tested and material audited by SAI Global Australia in accordance with AS2638.2,<br />
and are now included in the current Standards Mark SMKP20472.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> resilient seated gate valves (RSV’s) are manufactured in sizes DN 80 to DN 600 by Shanghai<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong> Machinery Co. Ltd. (<strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong>) in Shanghai, Peoples Republic <strong>of</strong> China (PRC).<br />
The <strong>Karon</strong> Valve Co. Ltd. has a certified Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> RSV’s are product certified with StandardsMark Licence No SMKP20472 to demonstrate<br />
compliance with the requirements <strong>of</strong> AS 2638.2-2002 <strong>Gate</strong> valves for waterworks purposes, Part 2:<br />
<strong>Resilient</strong>-seated, in sizes DN80 to DN600.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> RSV’s are rated PN 16 and are available in flange / flange end connections and with clockwise<br />
and anti-clockwise closure directions. Flanges comply with Figure B5 <strong>of</strong> AS 4087.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> RSV’s are fusion bonded coated with Jotun EP 9188A50941R Corrocoat Epoxy Powder coating<br />
by the fluidised bed process and are compliant with the requirements <strong>of</strong> AS 4158 and AS 4020.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> RSV’s are suitable for use with water and neutral liquids to a maximum temperature <strong>of</strong> 40ºC.<br />
<strong>Karon</strong> RSVs are supplied in Australia by CMW BVA <strong>Valves</strong> Pty Ltd (Challenger <strong>Valves</strong> & Actuators),<br />
whose contact details and a list <strong>of</strong> agents and distributors are shown in Appendix ‘C’.<br />
1.1. Recommendation<br />
Based on StandardsMark product certification the <strong>Karon</strong> RSV range has been shown to comply with<br />
the dimensional, material and performance requirements <strong>of</strong> AS 2638.2. Various <strong>Karon</strong> valves are<br />
marketed worldwide and their many acceptance and quality certificates demonstrate that <strong>Karon</strong><br />
<strong>Valves</strong> is a reliable manufacturer. The <strong>Karon</strong> RSV range is seen as “fit for purpose” product.<br />
When used in water supply installations; subject to design and installation compliance with both the<br />
manufacturers and the <strong>Water</strong> Supply Code <strong>of</strong> Australia (WSA 03-2002 as amended) the <strong>Karon</strong> RSV<br />
range has been rated ‘C’—Life expectancy in excess <strong>of</strong> 25 years before major rehabilitation.<br />
