2.1. The supplier:<br />
CMW BVA <strong>Valves</strong> (Challenger <strong>Valves</strong> and Actuators) is a privately owned company established in<br />
1981 primarily producing “Challenger” Butterfly <strong>Valves</strong> for the water, irrigation and general<br />
industrial markets. They also import a range <strong>of</strong> actuation products in both pneumatic and electric.<br />
The company is ISO 9001 certified, and audited by SAI Global Australia, the company also provides<br />
in-house testing <strong>of</strong> valves, including the pressure testing <strong>of</strong> valves to DN 600, paint and spark testing,<br />
actuator installation and testing, in house workshop for valve extensions, and modifications. The<br />
company also operates a valve service division for workshop and onsite for commissioning and valve<br />
repair.<br />
The companies head <strong>of</strong>fice is located in Shepparton, Victoria and owns and operates stocking<br />
warehouses in Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle and a project <strong>of</strong>fice located in Sydney NSW. The<br />
company also operates a national distributor network.<br />
Challenger <strong>Valves</strong> and Actuators is authorized by Shanghai <strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong> Machinery Co. Ltd. to act on<br />

Shanghia <strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong> Machinery Co Ltd. A privately owned Taiwanese company established in 1968<br />
primarily manufacturing valves for the water and sewage industry. The company now operates four<br />
manufacturing plants, three based in the Shanghai area <strong>of</strong> the Peoples Republic <strong>of</strong> China, and the<br />
original factory based in Taiwan.<br />
The company produces a wide range <strong>of</strong> industrial valves for the water industry up to and including 3<br />
metres in diameter. They employ over 560 personnel, which includes 70 engineers, and operate 47<br />
branches domestically; and one international sales <strong>of</strong>fice based in Shanghai. The company exports<br />
globally with major markets in the US, South America, Europe and the Middle East.<br />
In 2007 <strong>Karon</strong> <strong>Valves</strong> built a new 26,800m² factory (2 hours travel from Shanghai) for the sole<br />
production <strong>of</strong> resilient gate and butterfly valves to DN 800. This plant produces valves in accordance<br />
with AS, AWWA, DIN and BS.<br />
A new test facility has been completed and provides in-house flow dynamic testing on valves to 2<br />
meter in diameter.<br />
