MARRIAGE LICENSES ∏ MARRIAGE LICENSE INFoRMATIoN & REQUIREMENTS* *The following information may be subject to change, is for guidance only, and should not be regarded as legal advice. ThINGS yoU WILL NEED Driver's License or photo ID. CoST oF LICENSE The marriage license fee is $20.00 for in-state residents and $30.00 for out-of-state residents. RESIDENCy REQUIREMENTS you do not have to be a previous or current resident of Michigan to obtain a marriage license that is valid statewide. If you are a Michigan resident, but are not a resident of Benzie County, you are required to apply for your license in the county in which you reside. WAITING PERIoD There is a mandatory 3 day waiting period. In most states, the waiting period does not include Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. In some instances, the day the application is filed is not included within the waiting period. There is no waiting period from the date the license is issued to the date you are allowed to marry. AGE REQUIREMENT you must be 18 years old or older to marry without parental consent. A birth certificate may be necessary to show proof of age. BLooD TESTS & PhySICAL ExAMS No blood test or physical exam is required. LICENSE ExPIRATIoN License expires 33 days from the date it is issued. DIVoRCED & WIDoWED APPLICANTS If previously married, the date of divorce or date of spouse's death must be provided.
