e sky was clear, the cuisine was sumptuous,<br />
and laughter was in abundance as the red<br />
carpet was rolled out for our Legacy Giving<br />
Club members.<br />

Carmany, CEO of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>ElderCare</strong><br />
<strong>Services</strong>.<br />
Guests also had the opportunity to be the<br />
rst to tour our new Robert A. Barnes<br />
Center which included a long awaited look<br />
at e Kimes Chapel, the therapy spaces and<br />
the spacious resident rooms.<br />

With the assistance of the late Dave Snyder, a Wesley Glen resident<br />
and career arborist, a tree replacement plan was designed to enhance<br />
the Wesley Glen grounds after an emergency access lane was installed<br />
in the back ravine. Dave took great ownership in designing the plan<br />
that encouraged the planting of trees that complement each other<br />
throughout the year. Just a few weeks before Dave’s death he<br />
encouraged residents, friends and families of Wesley Glen to make<br />
this plan a reality by making donations to replace the trees.<br />

A beautiful August afternoon allowed donors, residents, families and guests to<br />
celebrate the generosity of the many donors who replaced 40 trees throughout<br />
Wesley Glen’s 11-acre campus possible. Dave would be pleased to see how the<br />
landscape of Wesley Glen has been enhanced and beauti ed because of the<br />
generosity of so many.<br />

Wesley Ridge Guild President Named<br />

President<br />
Wesley Ridge is pleased to introduce Gretchen Solt as the President of the new Wesley Ridge Guild.<br />
Gretchen is excited about the opportunity to help establish the Guild and to help it play a vital role in<br />
the life of Wesley Ridge. Gretchen’s past experience is a great compliment to the goals of the Guild: to<br />
serve as messengers telling the Wesley Ridge story, provide volunteer services to Wesley Ridge and its<br />
residents, and to assist in raising monies to bene t the community.<br />
Gretchen and her husband, Roger, are longtime residents of Reynoldsburg, having raised their two<br />
daughters here and are members of Peace United <strong>Methodist</strong> Church. She coordinated the opening<br />
and operation of e Shepherd’s Place on Brice Road for over six years. is store provided free clothing to over 20,000<br />
men, women and children during its rst ve years of operation. She is very familiar with Wesley Ridge because of her time<br />
coordinating the care of a dear friend who lived here at Wesley Ridge.<br />
Annual Membership to the Wesley Ridge Guild is $10 for an individual and $18 for a couple or $35 for a group (such as a<br />
church or company). We encourage you to learn more about becoming a member of the Guild and our many volunteer<br />
opportunities at Wesley Ridge. To do so, please call Gretchen at 863-0617.<br />
Russ Hall Honored for Dedication to<br />
<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>ElderCare</strong> Community<br />
When you hear the name “Russ Hall” at Wesley Glen, you know the conversation<br />
has something to do with the growth, history and success of our community. Russ<br />
became the rst Chief Operating O cer of Wesley Glen when he joined the<br />
company on January 1, 1972.<br />
With a strong vision and leadership, Russ helped Wesley Glen develop into the<br />
community we know today – a community that is committed to providing quality<br />
care and services to its residents. Russ was also in uential in establishing and<br />
growing Wesley Glen’s Charitable Care Fund, helping to build the community’s<br />
solid nancial foundation. Russ retired in 2006, after 34 years of managing the<br />
community’s operations.<br />
Russ joined the <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>ElderCare</strong> Board of Trustees in 2007 and continued to<br />
impact the direction of the organization as a whole. After ve years of being an<br />
in uential part of several Board committees, Russ “o cially” retires this December.<br />
Peg Carmany, CEO, shared her thoughts on Russ’ impact on Wesley Glen,<br />
“Russ Hall has been a member of the Wesley Glen community in many<br />
capacities -- employee, board member, and now a family member. His dedication<br />
to the community and its residents has always been paramount. Russ always puts<br />
resident care rst, and his service on the board has been invaluable. “<br />

is year, the <strong>2012</strong> Ritter Award<br />
winner was Jim Barbee, resident at<br />
Wesley Ridge. “Jim Barbee is very<br />
deserving of this recognition for his<br />
e ort in establishing the Heart of the<br />
City Foundation, his leadership as<br />
Chair of the Board and his continuing<br />
support for the mission of the Foundation,” Peter Krajnak,<br />
Chair of the Board, Heart of the City Foundation.<br />
e Ritter Award was established in 2009 in honor of Dan<br />
Ritter, an attorney who was instrumental in creating the<br />
Heart of the City Foundation. Dan created the by-laws and<br />
helped to establish the legal groundwork for the foundation.<br />
At that time, in 2009, Jim Barbee was the Chair of the Board<br />
of the Heart of the City Foundation and he presented Dan<br />
Ritter with the rst Ritter Award. Each year, at the Picnic<br />
with a Purpose, another Ritter Award recipient is recognized.<br />
