Annex 1 Technical description <strong>of</strong> refuse chutes<br />

The main part <strong>of</strong> the waste collection system in modern multi-storied residential buildings is represented<br />

by a refuse chute. The structure <strong>of</strong> the modern refuse chute is the following.<br />

A modern refuse chute consists <strong>of</strong> the following constructive elements:<br />

• a shaft designed for a regular gravitational batch transportation <strong>of</strong> SHW to the container<br />

installed in a waste collecting chamber;<br />

• a loading valve for a batch receipt, calibration and transfer <strong>of</strong> SHW to the shaft <strong>of</strong> the refuse<br />

shaft;<br />

• a gate valve for a regular shut-<strong>of</strong>f <strong>of</strong> the lower part <strong>of</strong> the shaft during transportation <strong>of</strong> full SHW<br />

containers, safe preventive, sanitary and repair works in the waste collecting chamber;<br />

• ventilation system for exhaust ventilation <strong>of</strong> the waste collecting chamber and shaft;<br />

• cleaning detergent and disinfector for regular cleaning, washing and disinfection <strong>of</strong> the internal<br />

surface <strong>of</strong> the shaft as well as for automatic extinguishing <strong>of</strong> SHW possible ignition inside the shaft.
