CarboPur LT
Advanced resin injection technology
for mining
CarboPur LT is
a major new
advance in resin
injection technology
for mining
applications
where chemical
reaction
temperature is
a concern for
safety.
Major features
Low reaction temperature - safe to use in coal seams
Controlled expansion - better yield + crack penetration
Does not react with water in strata - no uncontrolled
foam expansion
High bonding and adhesive strength - improved consolidation
properties
Applied at 1:1 ratio - can use standard pump system
New safe development
Resin injection from Minova is a proven system for the
consolidation of coal long wall face and ‘T’ junctions in
modern mines with the benefits of increasing productivity
and improving safety. Some coal seams are known to be
prone to spontaneous combustion and in such cases the
choice of injection resin system is crucial to maintain safety
and prevent any chance of localised heating. For such difficult
conditions Minova has developed a new resin,
CarboPur LT, which offers all the high performance required
of an injection resin but with a much lower and
controlled reaction temperature.
Controlled foaming and expansion
CarboPur LT can be formulated to give a foam factor from
1 to 20 times expansion and so can be adjusted to suit individual
customers requirements. Another major feature is
that CarboPur LT is not effected by any water in the strata
and so the expansion or foaming factor is not affected and
remains constant. This is important when uncontrolled
resin expansion might cause collapse of the coal face.
Simple application
To make application easy the ratio of CarboPur LT has
been maintained at 1:1 so that standard Minova injection
pumps and equipment can still be used with this new
technology. Standard packers and injection accessories are
used and the application process is the same as with any
product in the Minova injection chemical range.
Carbomine
Ultra safe injection resin
Carbomine, a phenolic injection resin, was first developed
for the Australian coal market to stabilise underground
rock formations. The resin is fully LOBA compliant and
meets strict safety and environmental standards.
Carbomine has low viscosity to penetrate the fines cracks,
low exothermic temperature and high bond strength to
ensure geological stability. The two component system is
mixed at a 4:1 ratio, which makes it ideal in combination
with Minova’s cavity fill product, Carbofill, as the same
pumping equipment can be used. The dual use of the
same application pump ensures substantial time saving
in set up for applications where both products are found
advantageous to meet safety and production requirement.
Carbomine has a very low exothermic temperature of less
than 60 °C and during in underground field trials, neither
phenol nor formaldehyde was detected. The excellent
strata penetration and superior bond strength characteristics
make Carbomine an ideal choice for underground
application.
Carbomine has recently had a very successful Australian
underground application at Donaldson Coal’s Tasman Mine
near Newcastle. Carbomine was injected into a rib line
as a precautionary sealing measure to prevent spontaneous
combustion after air passages through the coal pillar
had found elevated heat. The application was successfully
completed by experienced personnel from Minova’s NSW
Operations and Technology teams.
Advantages
Low viscosity
Low exothermic temperature
High bond strength
Tekcrib
Supplementary Roof Support System
The Tekcrib roof support system is designed as a viable al-
ternative to conventional supplementary roof support in
mine roadways and working zones. It is based upon Minova’s
long experience with pump packing support products.
Tekcrib is a non-combustible, simple and innovative roof
support system using minimal installation time. Cylindrical
grout containment bags (Ø 600 mm, 760 mm, or size to
suit conditions) are secured to the mine roof and subsequently
filled with Tekcrib foamed cementitious grout.
A specially designed Tekplacer grout pump combines the
Tekcrib pow-der with air and water at the correct ratios
to produce the cementitious foam. The foam is typically
pumped a distance of 300 m but much longer distances are
possible. The mix begins to gel within minutes of entering
the containment bag and cures to a final strength, typically
from 3 - 6 MPa depending on site requirements.
Advantages
Safety – less exposure time in questionable situations/
areas
Ease of Use – ideal for difficult-to-reach areas
Variable Strength – compressive strength 3 – 6 MPa
Simple
Full Surface Contact – conforms to irregularities on the
roof and floor so not affected by point loading forces
Fast Installation Speed – average installation rate of
roughly 15 cribs per hour (600 mm dia. x 2 m height)
High Strength – typical peak strength is 135 tons with
similar residual strength; good yield typically at least
400 mm of convergence is achieved
Blasthole lining for improved mining
or tunnelling efficiency
Terraliner is a unique system which can be applied as a
liner to stabilise blastholes. The liner forms a semi-rigid
coating which follows the shape of the blasthole adapting
it’s imperfect shape. The product is applied using a specific
spray application system suitable for upholes and downholes
in underground and surface mining applications.
Maintaining the integrity of blastholes is an important
factor in efficient mining operations. Blastholes may
become blocked from movements in ground or rock fragments
loosening from nearby blasting activities. Premature
closure of blastholes means additional costs and delays are
incurred in redrilling or blast performance is compromised
with associated downstream cost impacts.
Terraliner is compatible with typical blasting agents used
in the mining, tunnelling and construction industries. It
has negligible impact on blast performance and is applied
to dry and de-watered holes.
Advantages
The blasthole can be filled up to 6 months after drilling
has been completed
The membrane will protect the hole from intrusion of
water
Blasthole drilling programs can be executed seperately
to blasting sequences
Productivity and safety are improved
Tekflex DS
Innovative coating systems
TEKFLEX DS is a thin sprayed liner used for stabilisation
as well as sealing in tunnelling or underground mine
workings. The polymer based liner features excellent
properties regarding strength and flexibility. It increases
the load capacity of the rock and forms a persistent
membrane. The powder consists of mineral additives and
co-polymers and is mixed just with water prior to application.
Recommended applications in Tunnelling
Sealing of new shotcrete layers
Sealing of pre-cast tunnel segments
Stabilisation of tunnel portals and entries
Recommended applications in Mining
Drift sealing against gas and water ingress
Sealing of a drift prior to grout injection
Stabilisation of face and roof for securing against rock
and coal slides during driving, and general maintenance
and repair works
Temporary face and roof stabilisation against rock and
coal slides at longwall/drift transition
Securing of rock surface against alteration
Before starting the
application the surface
to be sprayed on
should be thoroughly
cleaned to remove
any dust and loose
particles.
TEKFLEX DS can be
applied on dry as
well as on humid
surfaces, but any
Advantages of Tekflex DS
flowing water should be sealed off before spraying.
TEKFLEX DS can be applied with a pump typically used in
tunnelling or mining to spray materials according to the
dry process.
During the spray process the powder is mixed with water
in a specialised nozzle. A suspension, which coagulates
within seconds, is formed building up a continuous membrane
on the sprayed surface.
This membrane is tangible after a few minutes and its
stability increases over the next few days resulting in a
compact but elastic coating adhering on most surfaces.
Long Distance Pumping Technology
Minova’s long distance pumping means a change in the
way the miner works. Instead of small pumps or cans
which constantly have to be supplied a long distance
pump can be placed in the mine.
In general, long distance pumps are today installed
centrally in the coalmine in order to supply entire mining
fields from one location. If this is not reasonable, then the
injection unit CT-PM is installed in the main or tailgate
road of the coal face. The coal face is supplied by means of
tubes and/or hose lines.
Long distance pump CT-PM
The pump can convey distances up to 5,000 meter and it is
remotely operable. It is also electrically driven with radial
piston technology and allows for an adjustable flow rate
without pulsation.
The customer can choose between 2,000 or 600 liters resin
containers depending on the expected injection requirement
for the injection shift.
2000 liters storage tank for A (white) and B (black) component
The long distance pumping system consists of 3 components:
Long distance pump e.g. CT-PM
Storage tank for each component serving as a reserve
and supply tank for the pump
Reusable containers
600 liters storage tank for B (black) component
Introducing long distance pumping allows for an immediate
initiation of measures for rock stabilization as the
injection resin is available constantly.
The integration of this comfortable and efficient injection
technology increases the value to the customer. It also increases
productivity, secures production, reduces accidents
due to falling rocks and reduces costs in transport, labor
and maintenance. The implementation of long distance
pumping improves safety and productivity in the mine.
Benefits of long distance pumping technology
Increase and backup of the production by means of
permanent availability of the injection resin with a
high standard of quality
Injection option during the extraction
Reduction of transport costs
Reduction of maintenance costs
Reduction of personnel requirements
Improvement of ergonomics and occupational safety
