72 The Royal Regiment of Artillery account book of Alexander Hutchinson, No 2235, detailing<br />

his service from enlistment at Edinburgh in 1831 to discharge in Halifax in 1853. The book<br />

includes notes of his postings in Dublin, Saint John, Fredericton and Halifax. Also noted are<br />

his marriage and the birth of his children, notably Mary Jane Hutchinson, born Fredericton 14<br />

June 1840. In 1854, Mary Jane made the sampler to be sold as the next lot<br />

73 A Nova Scotia sampler worked in 1854 by Mary Jane Hutchinson. 11 1/2" x 13".<br />

Provenance: by descent in family. According to her father's Royal Artillery account book (lot<br />

72), Mary Jane was born in 1840 and later moved to Halifax at her father's last posting<br />

74 "Spring Grove Farm, Dartmouth", a 19th century pencil drawing of the Hutchinson &<br />

Farquharson farms located on what is now Main Street and the watershed area of Dartmouth.<br />
