Health care is defined by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) as a
system of regulations and services created in order to promote health and to
prevent and cure diseases. The development of a health care system is
related to the social-economic situation and technology of the country.
Health statistics should focus on three main aspects:
- the state of health of the population
- the health care facilities (supply of material and financial means, and
human resources)
- the health care services demanded from and provided by the health care
system
This goes beyond what is presented in this publication. In this chapter about
health statistics, different components are brought together as to give an
overview of some sub fields of the health care area. The health statistics
provided here regard:
- the state of health of the population
- health facilities (supply)
- preventive aspects concerning birth control
It is obvious that most of the data regard the supply of facilities to
recipients. Data about the demand for health care are hardly available.
