of an alt in St John’s. We speak in languages that carry
messages from the dead, and hand on
our own into the silences that will never be read,
but are known to you as you bend your head low
and make the promises that time has kept.
Someone else said
it will have to stop. Someone else nodded,
then heard himself say
I’m not ready to go yet.
