Designed by Michele Humphreys at Kwik Kopy Printing
Fred Vance, who was one of the fi rst six artists to be named as honorary members
in 1903, designed the Art League woodcut of a Greek shepherd boy. His design has
been used every year since 1908 as the cover for the Art League yearbook.
The Art League Woodcut
Bringing art and people to our downtowns is one of the most visible and concrete
decisions we can make to build strong communities. Just as art is an expression of the
artist’s soul, a downtown is an expression of the community’s soul — past, present, and
future. Come! Experience the art! Listen to the Jazz! Take time to experience the rich
history of this wonderful Indiana town and be a part of shaping it’s future.
October 7, 2007
You’ve heard the phrase that says things improve with age. It
is certainly true of our six-year-old Downtown Art Exhibit. This
wonderful project, born of the dreams and determination of a few,
has grown in many ways over the past six years. The Exhibit has
grown in stature and variety. We have more people helping with
the donation of their resources, more artists entering, and more
members joining the Art League. We are grateful to each and every
one.
The Art League and the Downtown Art Exhibit were established establi to nurture and showcase
the treasures that are Crawfordsville’s heart and soul — her people and their gifts. We have
enjoyed providing a venue for so many fi ne artists from several counties. As proud guardians of
this vital community offering, we are so very happy to welcome you to our downtown and invite
you to enjoy the pleasures of our community.
2007 Crawfordsville Art League Honorary Artist
Honorary Artist for 2007. He was a graduate of Wabash College. In 1993 he gave $3 million
to the College along with his original art work. These are on permanent display in
Detchon Hall.
Elementary School Art
25 The Crawfordsville Art League believes that youth art projects are very important
and encourages youth to become a part of the artistic community. To that end, county
with awards going to students in fourth, fi fth, and sixth grades.
