PSALM TWENTY-NINE<br />

9, Sweep of the Storm to the South. Stanza V., vers. 10, 11, Jehovah’s<br />

Abiding Kingship will Ultimately bring Strength and Blessing to his People.<br />

Give unto Jehovah ye sons o€ the Mighty,l<br />

give unto Jehovah glory and strength ;<br />

Give unto Jehovah the glory of his name,<br />

bow down unto Jehovah in holy adorning.<br />

The voice of Jehovah is on the watersthe<br />

God of glory hath thundered ;<br />

Jehovah is on mighty waters :<br />

4 The voice of Jehovah is with power,<br />

the voice olf Jehovah is with state.<br />

5 The voice of Jehovah is breaking cedars,<br />

aye ! Jehovah breaketh in pieces the cedars of Lebanon<br />

6. He maketh Lebanon2 skip about like a calf,<br />

and Sirion like a bull-calf of wild-oxen :<br />

7 The voice of Jehovah cleaveth open and letteth out flames<br />

of fire.<br />

8 The voice of Jehovah whirleih-about the wilderness,<br />

Jehovah whirleth-about the ,wilderness of Kadesh :<br />

9 The voice of Jehovah whirleth-about terebinth^,^<br />

and strippeth-bare forests ;<br />

Anld in his rtemple4 the whole of it is saying5-“Glory!”<br />

10 Jehovah for the flood sat enthroned,<br />

and Jehovah will sit enthroned a king to the ages;6<br />

11 Jehovah will give strength to his people,<br />

Jehovah will bless his people with prosperity.<br />

PARAPHRASE<br />

PSALM 29<br />

Praise the Lord, you angels of His; praise His glory and<br />

His strength.<br />

1. Heb, ‘elim: prob. a synonym of ’elohim, and like it a plural of<br />

excellence; and therefore-“sons of God,” like the more usual form in<br />

89:7, Job 38:7. Cp. also 8:6, 82:1, 97:”.<br />

2. So, almost certainly (w. Br.) should Lebanon and Sirion be dis-<br />

tributed, For “Sirion,” see Deu. 3:9.<br />
